This week the Chicago Tribune published several news stories and related columns about assaults by groups of youths in the Streeterville area of downtown Chicago. More coverage appears Sunday.
A number of readers have asked why we have not included racial descriptions of the assailants and the victims in these incidents.

Correct! Can you imagine the following report criteria?
"A bank was robbed and a shootout ensued. The perpetrators were men, wearing clothes, and both 6 feet tall. They got into a SUV and fled the scene. If you see anyone fitting this description, immediately call 911 and report their whereabouts! "
They claim it’s not relevant. Let’s say ALL the perps are black, and I am walking down the street in Chicago. Maybe it’s relevant to ME if I see a group of 15 black “yutes” walking toward me, as opposed to a group of Poles.
Some race hustlers obviously shook down the local media saying it creates a “bad impression” (read that as reality) to mention race.
The notices immediately after a crime that avoid race are the most egregious.
There was a serial killer case in my area where the police knew the race of the perp (which contradicted thee earlier profile) and yet they failed to notify the public.
That rather let people be murdered than offend certain groups.
Insanity.
“When the criminals are real close to 100% members of one race, that should be considered relevant. It should scream out, “Hey, there’s a problem here!””
I couldn’t agree with you more. I recall having to take a “diversity training” class at my job where the “trainers” continually referred to the bias news reporting that linked crime with blacks. Needless to say, any mention that perhaps there is a problem, was construed as a negative comment and subjected the commentator to individualized consults. Scary, huh? Despite all the incredible hand outs and support measures taken to assimilate blacks into productive society, there are still many instances of this type of criminal behavior largely within their culture. To avoid speaking about has been a detriment not only to the society surrounding them, but to those within their culture who truly have risen above such base behavior.
The local paper here often uses this term in their reporting of a crime: “. . . the public should be on the lookout for two “light-skinned males” Conversely, they sometimes use the term, “dark-skinned males”, as the situations permit.
Only time race seems to be used is when the police are looking for “whitey” — then the media has not problem reporting that the perpetrator is white.
They could do much to justify this by just compiling some simple statistics. This could be done just once a year, and would in many ways actually be anti-racist. Here’s how.
First, total the number of violent crimes for the city. Then quantify the race of those committing the crimes. Then quantify the race of those victimized by the crimes. And last, but not least, quantify, by race, when racial epithets or slurs, of *any* kind, are used.
How could this be anti-racist?
To start with, while the majority of perpetrators are likely black, so are the majority of the victims. While on the surface this seems to condemn the black community, it can also be construed to say that the black community need far more police protection, and assistance, to help them help themselves in ways such as block watches. It also implies that they need more affirmative social programs to help black parents raise their children to be good citizens.
Even more challenging would be for the newspaper to note when racial epithets or slurs are being used. To use such language indicates both hate and weakness on the part of the user.
If when a black person is asked the equivalent of, “Do white people keep you down?”, if they answer yes, then they have a psychological barrier to success. In truth, by their actions and inactions, they are keeping themselves down, and blaming it on others, any others, and this is self deception.
Until they accept the simple cause and effect idea that they can improve their own lives, they are psychologically crippled. So they are in need of counseling by someone they can respect, to get them back on the track to self improvement.
And likewise, the newspaper can both point this out, and do much to change the situation for them. And this certainly is not racist in any way. But first, the newspaper must dispel the illusion that black people *cannot* hate or be racists.

Without a doubt. I have heard the “brothas” openly discuss “revolution” once again and talking about desiring bloodshed. For the life of me I cannot figure why. Is it genetic that they desire war? Is it in their blood to be savages? Why would blacks that have six figure incomes, live fantastic lives, even marry white women, try to claim they are some how repressed, put out, put down and desire to screw all that up by trying to stick it to whitey? It takes a real mental retard to think like that. They brainwash each other into thinking they are a repressed minority group that should seek vengence, and none of them have clue as to why.

Perhaps you, Gerould W. Kern will correct me if I am in error but I believe the race of the individuals involved in the recent
attacks and thefts is black, not white. My one question is am I correct? If I am correct, I do believe that it was deceitful and
dishonest of you to post a picture of white individuals with police officers. If I am correct, I believe that you have lied to your
readers in creating a false supposition by posting this picture.
I do hope that in the future you will make an attempt to correct this disgusting behavior.

Sometimes it takes a bloody “revolution” to bring about true change. It works both ways, for good and evil.
Anyone who is even somewhat savvy about the news can usually read it directly and know the race of the perp instantly.
Here are the clues:
1. If no race at all is mentioned, you can be sure it’s not a white (and probably not asian).
2. Look for words such as “teen,” or “youths.” You know they’re not white. The word “urban” is passe’ and no longer used as an adjective.
3. Look for the word “honor student,” when the “youth’s” mother describes her own child who has been arrested. Or, look for phrases like “he was always good.” A white perp is almost never described in these terms.
4. If the paper actually names a perp, and if the perp is not white, then he will not have names such as Jim, Steve, Dave, John, Matthew, Joe, or Bill.
5. If the paper describes the perp as white or caucasian, you can be sure that the perp actually may have been a white guy, the exceptions being if the description is hypothetical before the facts, like in the Washington DC sniper case.
Obviously you don't. Withholding relevant information means you don't take "these matters" seriously at all.

It made no sense as reported. But after some investigation I figured it out: the area was a mostly black part of the city, and the pedestrians were black and lower-income. The drivers cutting through it on the way to work were white, Jewish, or Asian, and higher income. One driver hit a pedestrian and didn't dare stop because they knew what would happen to them. Some less savvy types (Asian, if I remember correctly) stopped and got out and were promptly attacked. I'm going on memory completely because this was, as I said, some months ago, and it was one of those L.A. stories that buzzes around for 10-12 hours and then seems to vanish.
Note there are no comment section attached to this editorial.
Everyone knows when no racial description is provided the perps are black.
“Not central to the story”. All the perps were black in Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, Miami, Daytonan, New York etc. This is like hiding the identity of those attacking our troops because it is nonessential to telling the story that the troops were attacked.
It's much easier to blame others for your problems than to take steps to solve them through self-improvement.
That same thing happened with the DC shooters, Muhammed and Malvo. An early profile said “lone white guy” and the police came to know better but didn’t alert the pubic.

The fact that they do not allow comment shows exactly how out of touch they are. They do not represent the majority opinion and by this petulant behavior, seem to be scolding us..."We media elites will tell you lowly racist vermin what to think, and there will be ABSOLUTELY NO DISCUSSION ON THE MATTER!"
