Obama Has Challenges in Florida
Real Clear Politics ^ | June 11, 2011 | Brendan Farrington

President Barack Obama has problems in Florida that he didn't have when he won this pivotal swing state in 2008.

The economy here is worse than elsewhere. Foreclosures are high. Property values are low. And, now that he's the president, Obama could be blamed.

Voters' shifting attitudes underscore the degree to which the atmosphere has changed since his first campaign; Florida Democrats made gains in the 2008 elections with Obama on the top of the ticket, but the GOP won big across the state just two years later.

All that explains why Florida Democrats are redoubling their efforts to re-energize the rank and file - including Saturday at the state party's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner - and why Obama's campaign team has been on the ground training volunteers a full 17 months before the election.

The challenges also explain why Obama, himself, has been such a frequent visitor to the Sunshine State.

It’s going to be an all out blitz in FL of Medi-scare ads. But Dems are starting so early on Medi-scare, that people may be numb to it by the time the election rolls around. That’s pretty much all they’ve got to run on, and people can take only so much.

A house in my neighborhood in south Fla. was appraised at 850k a few years ago. It was sold at a bank auction a few months ago at $275k. Most of the Keys are like that.

Ouch! Some relatives are having improvements done. I hope they aren’t in vain.

“What worries me is the potential for a 3-way race”

That is their best hope. They will have to hope or create a “conservative” third party candidate to siphon votes away to ensure Obumbo will win.

It’s even worse in Key West. Condos selling for 650k a few yeas ago are routinely foreclosed on at 150-175k with monthly maintenance fees skyrocketing since the places are not longer fully sold.

Hard to tell. Most liekly scenario for real estate to make a come back is when the dollar is worth about half of what it is now in a few years.

How about boats in Fla?....I'm looking for a small (under45’) houseboat or Trawler....Being a notoriously cheap “Downeast Swamp Yankee Snowbird” I'm looking for firesale prices....

Some Democrats claim that Rick Scott’s unpopularity will spill over into the presidential are. I don’t think it will be much of a factor.

People forget how close 2008 actually was....Red states gain 14 Electoral Votes due to reapportionment off the census, all they need is Florida Ohio and any other one state...this is totally doable.

I’m concerned about a repeat of 2000...with a close contested election.

Fortunately, our legislature just passed some new election laws that should curb voter fraud.

Not taking anything for granted...we all need to work very hard to REPEAL OBAMA in 2012!

Obama's campaign team has been on the ground training volunteers a full 17 months before the election.

My concern is "what" are they training them to do? Cheat like hell and steal the election?

I pray that Donald Trump does NOT run as and Independent and split the anti-Obama vote.

I do believe the Baraqqi Coalition can pull 37% or so of the vote.

Unfortunately, I think the absolute guaranteed rat minimum vote is probably at 40% these days. Back in 1992, it was probably in the mid 30's. So, all the rats and msm need to do is support a third party candidate to such an extent that he can get into the upper teens. Then, an obamao victory can be assured -- now matter how bad the economy is and now matter how impressive the GOP candidate is.

So the question is: will Trump be able to repeat Perot's 1992 -uh- "success"?
