The loonies are running the asylum!
My mom laid into me with whatever was handy - 2 x 4, shoe, tree limb, switch......
I never spanked my kids when they were this little, but I would give them a little flip with my fingers (like shooting marbles) and say no in a stern voice. Shortly, all I had to do was say no in that same tone.
I also gave them lots of attention and praise for good behavior. Had a few rules enforced consistently. Spanking was rare because it was not needed.
