Tea party dilemma: What to do about Mitt Romney
Politico ^ | 06/24/2011 | Kenneth Vogel

Posted on 06/24/2011 6:57:20 AM PDT by Hawk720

The anybody-but-Mitt Romney faction developing within the tea party may pose a problem for the former Massachusetts governor’s presidential ambitions, but some tea party organizers worry it could also backfire against the movement itself.

Romney, the current Republican front runner, is viewed skeptically – at best – by many tea partiers. And disagreement over whether to actively oppose him threatens to undo the uneasy truces forged in the run-up to the 2010 midterms and undermine the fledgling movement’s influence in the GOP.

The possibility of Romney winning the nomination is even reviving debate about whether activists should embrace, or even form, a third party – an idea that until recently had been dismissed as harmful to both the movement and the GOP.

“I honestly don’t know whether the movement will perform well” in the presidential election, said Mark Meckler, co-founder of the Tea Party Patriots, a national coalition of local groups. “I don’t think anybody is looking for a third party candidate, but anybody who would count out that possibility, I just think is ignorant.”

Another tea party leader, Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, describes the presidential election as a potential “Achilles heel” for the movement, which arose in 2009 in opposition to what its activists saw as unchecked government spending and expansion under President Barack Obama.

“Our power comes from the fact that we’re not dependent on anybody to be the leader,” Kibbe told POLITICO, conceding the tea party’s diffuse and decentralized nature may be better suited to congressional races than presidential politics.

My preference in 2012 is a PAIR of conservatives, one black and one female. That would be Allen West and either Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin. Rick Santorum would be my 4th choice. Right now, no one else has my respect or my vote.

I’m not here professionally, any more than you are. (That is unless you’re hiding something behind your anonymous screen name.) You don’t have any idea what you’re talking about.

Our party has no employees. Not one. It doesn’t even take donations. It’s all volunteer.

I’m an activist. Always have been, always will be.

And that is what FR is for: independent, grassroots conservative activism, just like the homepage says.

So, your attempt to slime me, on thread, after thread, after thread, month after month after month, and to impugn my motives and my character, is nothing but a big lie.

Quit harrassing me.

Personally, I won’t vote for or support any of them.

Let’s hope the problem is solved when Governor Rick Perry enters the race!

I believe very soon the mix will look quite different! :)

Hi friend! I am looking forward to see what happens when Governor Rick Perry enters the race! Believe he would be one Sarah Palin would put her support behind too! I really think Sarah has no intention of running for President if the “right person steps forward for the right reasons” and runs. Thinking Governor Perry would be Sarah’s “right person”.

try to defeat him in the primaries and if he wins, vote against Obama and for every republican for every office so we can get in his way.
Either way, Obama needs to go.

I respect that. I think what makes me angry is the attitude by GOP party people who DEMAND that we support a certain candidate, a full 16 months before the election and a full year before the conventions. That is so counterproductive,
and is where Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney people have dared to go in the past.

I don't think any conservative can win without the TEA party movement.

I feel the same way, but we are not the majority of people. If we were, McCain would not have gotten the nod in 2008.

You cannot keep trying to deny that you are a Party Chairman, and calling that a slime attack, a personal attack, etc.

That's just a flat out lie. You didn't pressure me into anything. I've always posted openly here.

The fact is that I got you to change your home page to reveal your status as a high ranking party hack.

If you aren’t trolling, then start revealing that you are posting as a professional party hack.

You could use your tag line to identify your Party Chairmanship position.

Your brand of "grassroots activism" consists of attacking conservative Republicans. With pissant gone, you're the biggest troll on the board.

Suck mud, EternalVortex.
