U.S. soccer team booed in their own country as Mexican fans turn LA into an 'away' game

If the U.S. soccer team were hoping for the home advantage during Saturday's Gold Cup final then they were in for a nasty surprise. Despite being the 'home' side in California's Rose Bowl stadium, the majority of fans - most of them American born of naturalized Mexicans - booed and jeered the U.S. team.

The surprising scenes were followed by angry outbursts from U.S. team goalkeeper Tim Howard, who was visibly shaken after the entire post match ceremony was conducted in Spanish.

Speaking after the game, Howard said: '[tournament organisers] CONCACAF should be ashamed of themselves. 'I think it was a [expletive] disgrace that the entire post match ceremony was in Spanish. 'You can bet your ass that if we were in Mexico City, it wouldn't be all in English. 'It never ceases to amaze me all that stuff.' Tempering his comments, the ex-Manchester United keeper added: 'It was a good crowd today. 'They were up for it, doing the wave, it was what we expected. We know it's going to be like this.'

Speaking to the LA Times, Mexican supporter Victor Sanchez said: 'I love this country, it has given me everything that I have, and I'm proud to be part of it.' The 37-year-old Monrovia resident reflected the sentiment of most of the 93,000 strong crowd when he added: 'But yet, I didn't have a choice to come here, I was born in Mexico, and that is where my heart will always be.'

If this game had been an English team in England, and the illegals booed like that.. blood would have flowed.

At 37 years of age it appears you are old enough to choose where you want to live, now. I’m sure Mexico would love to have you return.

Flipped by a Portland Timbers home game on cable and those fans looked more French than if they had been sitting in Marseilles.

What gave them away? Were they all wearing berets? Throwing French Baguettes onto the field? Waving White Flags?

So if we pass the Dream Act he’ll cheer for the USA?

It is not an American city. I have lived here many years and have watched it disintegrate.

The last time Meh-hee-co squared off against the USA in a competition that really mattered, it ended with the Treaty of Hidalgo. Care for a rematch, Meh-hee-co?

If if I had my way, the rest of his body would be joining his heart in Mexico, and he wouldn't have a choice in that decision either.

He’s probably going by the one’s that were wiling to speak to him. Of course the illegals would defer so his sample is extremely skewed.

Not all immigrants feel that way. When I was working in the public library in South Pasadena, Calif., a Chinese woman who could barely speak English came up to me and asked for some books on US history during the Colonial era for her daughter. She said she wanted her daughter to learn about her new country and to become a patriotic American.

You’re absolutely right.

Mexico is nothing more than a toilet and a drug corridor.

Anyone who loves Mexico has a duty to move back there and try to fix the place up to more civilized standards. Their hearts, backs, hands and feet should all be down there and out of our country.

NYC has a very large Chinese population. We also have a very large illegal south of the border population. Here’s the difference. Chinese parents speak to their children in English. South of the border illegals speak to theirs in Spanish. This is not 100% of the cases but i hear this on the subway all the time. I would say its 85%+ in both cases.

Many of them were, in fact, wearing berets. They were all wearing scarves with the team logo, and at certain choreographed moments they’d all take their scarves off, hold them over their heads and begin singing Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” in unison.

And they destroyed one of the nicest little minor-league baseball parks in America for THIS??

Hah! ... Ok, I thought I was making a joke.... I guess not (one of those cases were 'truth is stranger than fiction')...
Sounds like it was gay old time for all (except for those who were trying to enjoy the baseball game).
