Chavez stay in Cuba could last for months, official says

(CNN) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's stay in Cuba, where he is being treated for cancer, could last for months, the country's vice president told a Colombian radio station.

Vice President Elias Jaua told W Radio Friday that Chavez would return to Venezuela "before 180 days."

The timetable is much larger than initial government claims that Chavez would return by July 5.

Chavez this week admitted that he had a cancerous tumor removed and was undergoing further treatment. The announcement confirmed rumors as his stay in Cuba extended, despite government reports that he had undergone a simple procedure.

So far, the government says that Chavez is remotely carrying out all his duties and is not in any form incapacitated in a way that would prevent him from doing so. From Cuba, Chavez has overseen a prison standoff that is going on its third week, and has given his ministers orders, officials have said.

Pity that this is happening to such a nice guy.

Good thing he’s getting his health care at the hands of the world’s best health care professionals.

Oh, he won’t DIE, he shall become that most immortal of creatures, a Marxist so much bigger than life, he can continue to hold power from beyond the grave.

Lenin managed it for several decades. And even Castro is doing OK, now one of the longest-running heads of state in history still ?living?.

Louis XIV of France lived and reigned for a longer period, but then he had a much earlier start, like about age four.

It's surprising Bam didn't invite the mutt to the USA to be treated at the Mayo clinic or some other prestigious hospitals for the elite. Maybe Chavez heard about Obamacare and thought better of it.

Only a complete fool goes for cancer treatment in Cuba.

I am sure they flew in another army of specialists from Spain, just as did after they botched up Fidel.

If Chavez wants any chance of survival, he should immediately head for Sloan-Kettering in NY or Dana-Farber in Boston. Everyone on earth knows that the world’s best cancer care in in the USA.

Fidel should trade brother Raul for Chavez and also get a 1st round draft pick of a prized Venezuelan shortstop. Cuba could also send over a few tons of sugar cane and Fidel’s favorite Cubano cigars to sweeten the deal. Castro and Chavez dream team for Cuba. Lebron and Wade should know....

The M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas is consistently rated the best cancer treatment hospital in the U.S. but I don’t think that Chavez would be warmly received there. :-)
