There is an article on WSJ, by Albert Mohler of the Southern Bapitist church, debating this exact same subject.
The essence of what he is saying is, hate the sin, love the sinner. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. Admitting that is the first step to salvation and sharing the news of God’s gift is the responsibility of all believers.
The problem arises from the way the believers choose to do this, either through example or direct witnessing. Either way should not include judgment because we are all sinners in one way or another.
Speaking practically on the national political level, a ‘counseling’ service that counsels gays not to act on their gay inclinations isn’t going to fly. It simply isn’t.
