Nice. You “date signed” fanatics slay me. The newbie expressed himself quite well. Deal with it.

The child fell in the pool and the family panicked for fear that they were negligent.

That would explain Casey going out and partying while the mother calls 911 to report that the car trunk stinks like a rotting corpse. NOT!

I’ve been on a murder jury and you are correct. You convict on evidence and not emotion. We convicted on 2nd degree but I was positive that if the police had processed the scene correctly it could have gone to 1st. As it was they gave us barely enough evidence to get to 2nd degree. Thank God the Perp testified and filled in the blank.

And you know this how?

There must be a hundred accidental drownings in backyard pools every year. I have a lot of trouble believing that the grandfather (A former police officer) would think hiding the body was the wise thing to do.

My personal feeling is that she was doing the all too typical party girl thing and accidentally killed the child so she could go play.

That said, I do believe the verdict is legally correct despite the fact that I think she's guilty.

It is truly a great day for justice.

Let's suppose you are correct.

Anyone who would toss their 2 year old's child's body away to be ravished by animals and vermin is one sick puppy and on that basis alone is deserving of contempt.

I respectfully disagree.

Playing Devil's advocate, the verdict does not bring the victim back to life. It was definitely a homicide. Who then?

I agree. I am sick of listening to these talking heads and others denigrate this jury. The prosecution spiced up a very speculative case and like the OJ case got carried away with some of their allegations.
The defense poked holes all through their case.
I'm disappointed but not surprised after listening closely to both closing arguments.

It’s probably 25 years of Prosecution talking, but from what I saw, it was a pretty easy call for the jury to find not guilty. The state didn’t prove much.

And looking guilty, being suspected of guilt, isn’t even close to guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The LAST thing we want in our burgeoning police state is being guilty because you look like it. My god, that would be the absolute unalterable end to America.

Reading some on the responses to this news tonight, I am coming to believe that we are closer to that than I could have even imagined.

“Maybe, but I’da thought they would find her guilty of a lesser charge.”

Casey was found guilty of four counts of lying to the police. I’ll bet she will serve less than a year or maybe the sentence will be reduced to time served.

That’s what I thought. No one can say she murdered that child for sure, even tho she was behaving despicable after the fact.
I thought the prosecutions scenario was horrid until I listened to the defense refute much of it. I was appalled that the state could manufacture a narrative based on speculation. Scary indeed.
What a shame, but watching these talking heads explode, who think they’re so smart, is kind of interesting.

If I were Casey and the lying Anthony’s, I would not spend that expected money, just yet.

There WILL BE CIVIL suits.

Two that would be would be forthcoming: Zinida Gonzales
And Tim Miller with Equisearch, who spent over 100,000 searching for Caylee...for starters.

This doesn’t mean she’s innocent,

What, in your opinion, is her legal status if she isn't innocent?

Could they have been brought up on wrongful death and tampering with evidence charges?

There was a millionaire in Galveston some years back who got into an argument with his neighbor and killed him. He then chopped up the body and sank it in the ocean. He was only convicted of something like improper disposal or tampering with the body.

That said, I think the jury probably just didn’t have enough proof to convict on homicide charges. The child’s body was in bad shape, so there wasn’t much evidence to get from it, and as for the testimony, the entire family and all their friends are so messed up that it was probably impossible for the jury to be sure of anything.

I really feel sorry for the jury, and I’m sure many of them are unhappy with the verdict but felt they couldn’t do anything else with reasonable certainty. It’s definitely not a case I would have wanted to be on.

If the jury felt that way, they would talk to the media. This jury is too ashamed of themselves to speak to the media. One of my questions to the jury is, "if you think she lied to the police, what do you think was the truth?".

“The child fell in the pool and the family panicked for fear that they were negligent.”

Where’d you get that evidence?

I only heard that “theory” coming from Baez.

When was that evidence presented?

Kind of goes against the taped, in evidence, jailhouse conversation between Cindy and Casey ridiculing the Enquirer about that story. “Surprise, suprise” said Casey.

Why do family members protect the dysfunctional ones?

Because they're dysfunctional too.

Read up on Stockholm Syndrome for an extreme example. But also consider that most people aren't really very nice, and live along tribal lines. Us vs. Them, and the Us is very, very small.

The illusion of sophisticated broadminded intelligence in the world is utterly dependent on the power not going out.

Oh, she was definitely responsible (and personally, I think she did kill the child) but it all depends on the judge’s instructions to the jury. They can’t just decide on a lesser charge on their own, and I guess the only options for them were either homicide or let her go free.

I doubt that Casey is going to come to a good end. Once upon a time, we might have hoped that she would repent and try to mend her life, but I don’t think criminals even consider that nowadays.
