TEHRAN, Iran -- A senior Revolutionary Guard commander threatened Saturday that U.S. aircraft carriers would be targeted if Iran came under attack amid a standoff with the West over Tehran's nuclear program.

I don’t think the Navy is sitting in the Gulf waiting to get sucker punched again, like they did with the Stark.

Unless George Soros Valerie Jarrett The First Wookie Barack Obama orders them NOT to fire, even if fired upon.

I vaguely have the impression that there have been cases (Ft. Hood; Somalia; the Marine Barracks in Lebanon in 1983; the USS Cole) where our defensive posture hasn't been all it could have been.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

Those are different individual cases. I think the Navy more or less assumes the worst in the Gulf and is ready to shoot first and ask questions later. I’ll bet the Iranians have launched probes and been satisfied that the Navy will shoot. You notice that they grabbed 14 British sailors (back around 2005) and gave the U.S. Navy, which was conducting similar patrols, a wide berth.

No President of the United States would kill millions of civilians in response to an attack on a purely military target - and a CVN, at sea, is about a pure a military target as there can be.

This is, of course, the problem with the CVBG. It is extremely vulnerable to nuclear attack, and it's apparent safety is an illusion, because since 1949 no one has had both means (locate, track, and deliver weapon) and motive to take one or more CVBGs out.

Iran may be different - we'll see.

I wonder if certain people have ever thought of using a concept of smaller drone aircraft, basically mini cruise missiles or not too expensive large RC aircraft, a thousand or more available each with a video feed and with a program that would target small suicide boats.

The Navy had dirigibles that launched smaller fighter planes, perhaps a modernized airship could also be the launching platform for weapons designed for massed attacks from all points of the compass at the same time.

Take out a carrier, and Tehran and Isfahan are nuked

Never happen.

Not in a million years.

If GWB did not nuke Tora Bora in response to a successful attack on a civilian, population center target, what makes you think Obama, or anyone else, would kill ten million civilians for a successful attack on a military target.

It would never happen.

Replace the phrase “sink one of our Carriers” with “knock down the World Trade Center Towers”, and tell me how that sounds. We should have done it then. Just picked a city at random and made it glass. We have lost our spine, and until we get it back, we are just a target.

The US should let it be known, inter alia, that in the case Iran sneezes the Revolutionary Guards terrorist base for its Al Quds force located at Qom will be wiped out. If there is collateral damage that destroys the home of the Ayatollahs, we cannot be held responsible.

A tweak here, a tweak there, a Phalanx, helicopters, and UAVs everywhere... it’ll be like swattin’ mosquitoes. It was never going to be much of a problem anyway once the brains in the Pentagon turned their attention to it.

All those scenarios presume conventional weapons only.

Nukes are the way to sink carriers, and Iran will have them soon.

Just remember the U.S. owes Iran one giant shipment of whipass and they’ve complaining about the short order for three decades. We need to Don Corleone on them.

Don Corleone: I’m a superstitious man, and if some unlucky accident should befall [my son], if he should get shot in the head by a police officer, or if he should hang himself in his jail cell, or if he’s struck by a bolt of lightning, then I’m going to blame some of the people in this room. And that, I do not forgive.

I was working in Baghdad in 1983 during the insane Iran-Iraq war. The Iranians threw literally hundreds of thousands of fanatical young men against a well-armed Iraqi army and they were, not surprisingly, chewed up. We would do well to avoid a boots-on-the ground scenario in Iran and pulverize them with air and surface naval assets.

Nothing will happen with a Muslim President in the White House.

That has already been shown. The only wars we fight are for the benefit of Islamics to consoldiate power. That’s our foreign policy.

I maintain a few nukes would have scared the Arab Street into quiet submission for another 200 years after 9/11/01.

They don’t fear us at all, especially when we do their fighting for them.

Now we are groped at airports, spending trillions for terrorism wars without end, and scolded if we speak the truth that Islam needs a reformation or destruction.

Iran is the head of the hydra, and the next ten years will show just how stupid we have been in not striking the Arabs decisively right after 9/11/01, instead of in the limited, piecemeal fashion we have been doing.

Islam fears only one thing—their own annihilation, and a man stronger than themselves. We can’t continue to fight in this manner. There is no end in sight.

They know we are like Gulliver held down on the beach by the Lilliputians. And they will act when they think there will be acceptable consequences.

We have to make the consequences unthinkable.

Of course this is correct, as I said, right here, repeatedly in 2001 and again after Fallujah.

Was George W. Bush a Muslim?

The ships have few guns and are much more fragile when hit.

You mean like the U.S.S. Stark and U.S.S. Cole....? Both were a lot smaller, took heavy damage with casualties, and neither sunk.
