Teachers are taught “how to teach” instead of being required to show mastery of the subjects they teach.

I have a Masters in Education, and I agree. For the teaching part of my degree, it was a very political experience. Everything was about being PC and inclusive and political, nothing about subject matter or mastery or skills. So most teachers go out into the schools as political minions.
The sad thing is the NCLB was instated to try to assure schools would rise up and start teaching basics, and making sure the students mastered them. Instead they just went to cheating.

An Ed.D. without an actual subject is an EMPTY degree.
Ed.D. is the bogus “doctorate degree” in “education.”
