A fan poses during the opening night of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on July 14, in Los Angeles, California. The eighth film in the Harry Potter series broke single-day box office records with a whopping $92.1 million in opening day sales, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.

The eighth film in the Harry Potter series eclipsed 2009's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which previously held the one-day ticket sales record at $72.7 million, added Exhibitor Relations.

"Deathly Hallows -- Part 2," the action-packed finale to one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, opened in North America cinemas Friday with a special midnight screening.

The film sees boy wizard Potter take on the evil Lord Voldemort in a climactic showdown, the second of two movies based on the final Potter book by British author J. K. Rowling.

Industry experts predict that Potter, and his wizarding friends, will set a new all-time opening weekend record, and beat current record holder superhero Batman into second place.

"The Dark Knight," the last of Batman's film adventures, hauled in $158 million on its opening weekend in 2008

If Alan Rickman does not get an Oscar nod for this film I will be very disappointed.

You’re so right. I still haven’t gotten over them cutting out the “Ton-tongue Toffee” and Dudley and Harry shaking hands when they parted.

>>Dudley and Harry shaking hands when they parted.<<

I was glad to see that scene included in the special features of the Blu-Ray of DH1.

We got some Ton-tongue Toffee at Wizarding World. And so U-no-poo. I won’t let anyone eat them.

It is? I have the blu-ray! I thought I checked out the special features. Oh, well, my middle daughter and I have free tickets to the movie, but have to wait until after next weekend, so we’re having a Potter marathon next weekend. We’ll pay closer attention to the extras. :)

Thanks for the ping! I've posted my BibChr review, in case any are interested. Beat the IMDB crowd.

I was really happy to see it. One of my main beefs of DH1 was that scene was missing.

I did like the way Hedwig met her demise rather than in the book. I felt better that she was defending Harry.

I too liked that Hedwig’s death had purpose in the movie, whereas in the book she was just sitting in her cage.

We went to a double feature-Part 1 at 9 pm and Part 2 at midnight. Part 1 was a little draggy but Part 2 was amazing. My kids mentioned they were sad that the age of Harry has ended too. Really, really good movie!
