OSLO, Norway -- The man blamed for attacks on Norway's government headquarters and a youth retreat that left at least 92 dead said he was motivated by a desire to bring about a revolution in Norwegian society, his lawyer said Sunday. A manifesto that he is believed to have written ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on "indigenous Europeans" who he accused of betraying their heritage.

Although lawyer for the 32-year-old Norwegian suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, said his client acted alone, police conducted raids on a garage and sheds in an industrial neighborhood of eastern Oslo, said police officer Kjell Bjerklund.

Survivors of the mass shooting on Utoya island that killed at least 85 young people reported seeing two assailants, and police have said they were looking into those accounts and had not ruled out a second suspect. Another seven people were killed in Friday's bombing in an Oslo government building.

That’s interesting about the Turks.

I liked Germany - many beautiful places there. And the feather beds!!!

Also to illustrate this non security mindset recall the murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986. He was walking home from a movie with his wife on the streets of Stockholm and had no bodyguards and was gunned down.

It is nice here.

I’d say about a good 90% of my neighbors are Turks. I’m known as “Mr. America” in my neighborhood.

As far as the religious makeup here, the majority of Turks are Sunni (which is to be expected), but we have (in my little area) a strong contingent of Alvei’s (Shia pacifist humanists) and Sufi’s (navel-gazers). Hell, I don’t need to travel to Istanbul to see a whirling dervish in the flesh....I can just go upstairs! And as far as that goes, I simply cannot for the life of me understand how it’s physically possible for someone to spin for 10 minutes continuously without falling flat on one’s face or throwing up.

We have one church (Protestant, and empty) about 500 yards away, another about 300 yards away (Catholic, and usually empty), not far from me a Seventh-Day-Adventist Church (full, mostly with African immigrants), and of course, mosques galore. One of which I thought was a bank-it certainly looks like one.

I think he brings up some good points, though his murderous rampage served no good purpose.

I was just thinking something similar. This is a thinking man's suicide bomber tactic. He planned an elaborate crime which has focused worldwide attention. He let himself be captured alive, where he will be put on trial, which will also, no doubt, be a circus. His manifesto is out there. His trial will raise attention to his cause.

It's a monstrous, savage way to go about it, but if his purpose is to gain attention for his cause, he's already succeeded. As far as that goes, I'm sure he's happy to be dismissed as a nut and a monster. If can get the world to repeat what you just said, he'd consider himself successful beyond all measure.

That’s sad. That probably means there are kids and/or adults still unaccounted for. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the victims died from drowning. I can’t imagine the water is very warm and even a bad swimmer will dive in to avoid getting shot in the head. Sad.

Wow, I didn’t know there were actual human whirling dervishes. I will have to look that up. Sounds like an interesting place where you live. Very sad that the Christian churches are empty - big problem with long term consequences.

And yet the Unibomber didn’t hurt the environmentalist movement much...it was just a crazy guy with Al Gore literature in his nest. I don’t recall much being said about it being the eco-nuts’ fault, or Gore’s fault. The parallel seems closer to me than to McVeigh in some ways.

How is that?

Well, since these are kids into Labor Party politics, they’re probably not super aggressive. Nor are they used to guns. So running away and/or hiding is a more natural reaction. And running away is a good survival instinct much of the time — it’s just that on a small island it’s not very effective. Also, that police uniform clearly confused everyone when it came to reacting.

Finally, while it’s a small island, it’s got a lot of trees and a rocky shoreline. That would make it difficult to see what was going on from a distance, thus making it difficult for people to figure out exactly what was going on besides hearing shots and screams.

“but should an Obama regime take further and continued control of the nation,...then I could probably admit we could not just have one or a couple of similar incidents of lone wolf anarchists like this but a simultaneous uprising of several hundred across the country...But being uncontrolled lone wolfs they will seek no logical tactical plan, no plan of sanity, not even sane, it will be sheer frustration and insanity brewed by what they feel is wrong.”

I couldn’t agree with you less. Conservatives are strong people. They don’t go crazy when things get tough. They get tougher. You’re thinking about liberals, and even they haven’t been driven to do things as crazy as this loon.

Agreed. That was my theory early on. From his perspective, he grew sick of commies and muzzies taking over his country and took out a sizeable portion of the next generation of enablers.

I also predicted it would backfire. You don't go after kids. Period.

Absolutely, had the young folks on that island been there with loaded rifles to take sniper training from American military instructors there is little possibility that the attack would have occurred. In fact had it been known that there were a few adults carrying concealed handguns the attack probably would never have occurred.

Here’s a clue for the clueless - Islam demands war against ALL non-Moslims.

Moslims are fighting a Crusade against the nom-Moslim world as I type this.

As for the crazed Norwegian murderer, he is hardly the first to see the necessity/inevitability of a crusade against Islam. Anyone who knows Islam, loathes Islam.

Shooting non-Islamic children is hardly a valid argument for the destruction of Islam.

I am still confused how he managed to do a car bombing at the same time as an attack on an isolated defenseless island. I don’t think one can do this alone.

He was an admirer of Putin too, by the way. Another statist whack job.

That straw was laid in Norway already
