Potential Debt Limit ‘Plan C’ Emerges, Democrats Say (GOP ready to shaft Conservatives, again)
Fox News ^ | 7/28/2011 | Ed Henry

Posted on 07/28/2011 8:04:31 PM PDT by tobyhill

Democratic officials are cautiously optimistic that the outlines of a potential compromise – a “Plan C” – are emerging that could bridge the differences between plans pushed by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

The officials said President Obama has spent the past couple of days quietly reaching out to leaders in both parties to try and start hammering out the details, though it's clear this is still only in the discussion phase and they are not close to a deal yet.

Senate Budget Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., hinted at such a compromise earlier Thursday during an interview on Fox News.

“Let me just say behind the scenes there are discussions underway to find a way forward,” said Conrad. “To how would you harmonize what Leader Reid has come up with and Speaker Boehner has come up with and I'm increasingly of the view that we can do that. That’s good news.”

The focus of this round of talks is on what kind of "trigger" mechanism the debt ceiling legislation will have to guarantee that a new special committee of Congress actually follows up with real spending cuts later this year. And whether or not positive action by the committee will allow the president to get more leeway on another lift in the debt ceiling so there’s no repeat of the current debate early next year.

If Boehner goes against the TEA party and passes a Democrat plan from the House, he and the critters can kiss their ass goodbye. Obama will have shattered the GOP.

I'm not sure Boehner can stop it. The Rs couldn't pass one [yet.]

I'm no parliamentarian; how do bills come up in the House?

If he can prevent something from coming up and he's willing to cut spending by 40% and accept blame for 13% unemployment and super-shrinking GDP, Then maybe he sits.

The Rs lose control if they don't pass something. IMO. In a heartbeat, Dems would withhold payment and blame the TEA party. Obamao and MSM would cooperate of course. 1995 again.

I hope they don't give in to Obama’s demand to make the the changes effective until after the election.

If Obama offers, say, 3:1 meaningful cuts to extension which are verifiable and enforceable then why not?

the house should pass another bill or maybe even 2 with more cuts and savings then cut cap and balance....let the dems pick the lesser of 2 evils or default....they'll pick CC+B....then when we our S+P ratings gets downgraded..beat em over the head with not passing the stronger bill...

The majority in the House holds the purse strings!!!
it was designed that way...the house has done its job!...its a no win for Dems if they hold that line

very simple concept of the constitution

The Democrats demand that this cannot be an election issue. What blows my mind is “Why the heck not”! This guy wants uncontrolled spending and doesn’t want the debate in 2012.

That is completely ludicrous to me. The spin has stopped in my household.

If the republicans can’t pass the Boehner plan...

Then the only thing the Senate can vote on is the CCB bill. The Senate can't "send over" (initiate) this type of bill.

I still want to see Boehner's bill pass because it tightens the screws on Obama and Reid.

Well, if this happens, it pretty much guarantees a 3rd party in some form.

Plan C where lack of republican "compromise" triggers automatic tax increases. Yeah, that will work.

Plan C = Cut Cap and Bend over.

I am curious as to what is being adjusted. They better keep any cap increase to be revisited. The democrats failure to ever produce a budget might even deserve an amendment on it’s own failing.

If they push this past the elections next year I say goodbye to the party I have associated with all my life. That is a promise.

Obama wants all of this to be extended past the election. I am of the belief everything rides on that.

And a Plan "C" that extends past the election would require either tax increases or cuts to entitlements. Remember the extra $400 Billion in taxes Obama wanted? Boehner was ready to agree to a plan "C" type deal and Obama queered the deal.

Are you Jeff Fisher? Sounds like the prevent defense to me. The only thing it prevents is winning.

Plan C has always been in the works and we aren’t going to like the treachery of the Republican leadership or how the Dems trash us over with this plan.

There must be a plan "B" passed to have a plan "C".

Yes I do and Boehner had a plan accepted by Obama until he went back to the Senate Dems and the number jumped 400B.

At that point John walked out. We are where we are. No Blinking Allowed.

If Obama wants the Market to sink then it will. To demand he doesn’t have to revisit it during an election is stupid. He will have to revisit it until Dems come around.

Obama SHALL get blamed for this, for total lack of leadership.

“The Rs lose control if they don’t pass something.”

They have already passed two Bills. This Bill is bogus and unnecessary. How many more Bills need to be passed?

This is total BS....

Mark Levin was talking about how he strongly suspects that Boner and Reid had their staffs working on a deal, while the postured their own for political effect. I believe it, it is time to start planning for 1775 revisited. Where is Ben Franklin, and George Washington to begin the process of negotiations with the foreign, far away “autocracy” on our behalf?

None of the payment arguments hold any water. A raise in the debt ceiling raises debt for spending not yet created. Why don’t we just pay the debt we have. Obama will lose this argument and America will be much more educated in the process.

A new caveat to that is the world market downgrade which will force debt interest to rise and thus force all debt to pay higher interest, which will push all rates paid much higher.

Tell me why Democrats move their agenda forward even when they are a minority, and Republicans back pedal when they are the majority? My answer, because they both play for the same team.....BIG INTRUSIVE ALL POWERFUL GOVERNMENT. If we had a majority in the House and Senate, with control of the White House, those in power still would be crying about needing a bigger majority before changes could be made. D’s and R’s, different packaging, same BS.

Not one more dime over money received, balance the budget now, let Obama and the Dems stand against it.
