Trump: I May Run for President if Economy Stays Bad
cnbc ^

Posted on 07/30/2011 2:40:45 PM PDT by tsowellfan

Real estate mogul Donald Trump said Friday he'd consider running for president — again — if the U.S. economy "continues to be bad: and "if the Republicans pick the wrong candidate."

"I would give it very, very serious thought," he told CNBC. "There are so many people wanting me to do it."

The Trump Organization president did not say on which party line he'd run if he didn't like the Republican candidate.

But he said congressional Republicans have a great opportunity to "negotiate a great, great deal, but they can’t be weak." He said that any deal to raise the debt ceiling by the Aug. 2 deadline should involve cutting considerable government waste, including repealing the Obama health-care law, which he called "a disaster."

What he doesn't want is a default, he said.

"I don’t advocate default," he said. "What I do say is you can’t be afraid [of a default]. This is the time to settle the problems of years and years of abuse. This is the time for the Republicans to get the country back on track. The Republicans have the cards, the president does not have the cards."

As he did when he considered a presidential run earlier this year, Trump blamed a lot of the problems in the U.S. economy on "foolish leaders" who allow other countries — principally China and the members of OPEC — to steal jobs and keep the U.S. over an expensive oil barrel.

"People don’t respect us any longer, they don’t respect our leaders. With all these foreign countries taking advantage of the U.S., unless somebody addresses that problem we’re never going to be great again," Trump said.

He also railed against overregulation and federal bureaucrats who, he claims, are "sitting around doing nothing. It's just like featherbedding...It's absolutely sinful."

Trump added, "you have to cut, cut, cut. I see the waste. I do a lot of business with the government and it’s not fun."

Oh, great. We get to hear more useful idiot “conservatives” show up on FR and rehash the “this guy has my attention...he’s the only one with the guts to take on Obama” stuff.

There will always be people looking to waste their votes on the next Perot. We just have to hope that an equal number of dunderheads on the left are willing to flush their votes down the crappy on the Green party. Maybe Nader will run again!

Can I recommend Harry Reid as your VP, being he’s benefited from all your support in 2010?

If the Republicans pick the wrong candidate — i.e. Romney — then I’m onboard for a third party, whether it’s Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul or whomever.

Remember, 19 years ago, Perot supporters from the Reform Party helped build Free Republic. Freepers are absolutely *not* ideologically tied to the Republican Party.

You know, I have heard that line (or similar) from supporters of at least 6 different candidates/potential candidates on here. I’m beginning to think its a disease.

I didn’t read it that way - more like taking on the GOP and their weakness when the cards are in their hands.

ALL business are pulling back and some going under. That’s BO’s legacy and, also, his intent.

I’d rather have someone speak from the heart than scripted tele talk. ‘My muslim faith and 57 states’ spoke by a US president is more offensive to me as an American than hearing mother*******

If "speaking from the heart" includes dropping a bunch of F-bombs and generally making a fool out of himself in public speeches then no thanks.

Trump the clown is nothing but a self promoting buffoon. He is not a conservative, he is a chameleon who thinks he can fool the masses with is over the top antics.

I've seen all the arrogance I want to see in Barack Hussein Obama. I don't need Mister Ego, Donald Trump, getting in the way of a Republican victory in 2012. Aside from the fact that Trump isn't a conservative, wants to do a 'Ross Perot" and run 'Third Party', handing the election to Obama, he has tremendous 'baggage' including, I'm sure, many, many people he has screwed over in business deals and, of course, the potential for bimbo eruptions galore. And what is this narcissist nonsense about "if the Republicans don't nominate the 'right' candidate" Donald Trump will run? Who is the 'right' candidate? Romney? Palin? Someone in-between. Trump's galloping arrogance is highly annoying. He may be rich but he is not half as smart as he thinks he is. Like many rich men, he is talented in a few specific areas of life. Also like many rich men, I'm sure Trump surrounds himself with sycophants that constantly tell him how brilliant he is. His offensive cursing during a public speech demonstrates a lack of discipline and, frankly, no class. He should do what some tell Sarah Palin to do: stay on the sidelines, challenge Obama - but don't run. In Palin's case it's because some are convinced (by the MSM) that she can't beat the very vulnerable Barack Obama. In Trump's case, his not running would open the door to more viable candidate(s) that don't have Trump's 'baggage', his lack of class (despite his millions) and his faux conservatism. Go away, Donald!

I never said he was a conservative. He’s hardly a buffoon - he doesn’t feed off taxpayers like some ‘do nothing’ politicians. They wouldn’t make it in private business where you MUST produce and do what you are hired to do!

OK, Donald, it was kind of cute when you were calling Obama out for a while, but now you've just become tiresome.

Go fire somebody or put more hairspray on or something, but please go away.
