How the Tea Party ‘hobbits’ won the debt fight
The Washington Post ^ | July 31, 2011 | Marc A. Thiessen

Posted on 07/31/2011 6:47:10 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The Tea Party came under fire from all sides Friday after House conservatives nearly brought down Speaker John Boehner’s debt-limit bill. John McCain went to the Senate floor to mock Tea Partyers as “hobbits,” and Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen said Tea Party Republicans “are unfit for governing.”

What a difference a weekend makes. The reported debt-limit deal appears to be a victory for the Tea Party. It includes around $1 trillion in spending cuts and creates a special committee of Congress to recommend cuts of $1.2 trillion more. If Congress does not approve those additional cuts by year’s end, automatic spending cuts go into effect. The package sets an important new precedent that debt-limit increases must be “paid for” with commensurate cuts in spending. According to Sen. Rob Portman, a former White House budget director, if we cut a dollar of spending for every dollar we raise the debt limit, we will balance the budget in 10 years — something that even the Paul Ryan budget would not achieve. And all this is accomplished with no tax increases.

The devil is in the details, of course. There are troubling reports that the agreement may disproportionately cut defense spending. Conservatives should ensure that the final deal, which is still being hammered out at the time of this writing, does not gut defense. They should scour the legislation to make certain it lives up to its billing. If it does, the Tea Party has won.....

I imagine both sides are saying to themselves that this is not the end game, so agreeing to a ten-year plan is just the first skirmish. We must be prepared for the long-haul and the maturation of the Tea Pary as a political force.

BINGO, you win, the debt is the republicans fault, they have no responsible revenue plan, to cover all of their spending. Ads are being written, republicans party of the rich, will not pay their far share, look what their bill is doing to the national debt. You watch all that will happen.

I smell a rat. It’s 10:00 PM Sunday night. By tomorrow all the pundits will begin analyzing the details of this thing and we’ll know for sure if this is the real deal or if we’ve been had by this regime AGAIN.

The Democrats/Rhinos got 2Trillion more dollars-I count that as a win for them.

It's time to admit that conservatives don't yet have enough political power to get just what they want. You're not going to reduce the next year's spending by a trillion dollars and get a balanced budget amendment. Since that's not going to happen, the debt ceiling has to be raised again.

This debate has become a distraction and if it continues, it could damage the TP and conservative causes. Declare victory and prepare for the next fights. The most important task is to elect more conservatives and to defeat Obama in 2012.

The bush tax cuts had an agreed upon date for them to expire, it was part of the law when they ended. And any law pertaining to the future can be changed by a future congress. The big question is why has no one in congress, since 1974, has attempted to do away with the bogus base line budget. The answer is they are afraid of the media and charges they are stealing from the poor. Catch 22:

Bush Tax cuts expire also means more taxpayers and everyone’s rates goes up not just the ‘ Rich”.

And those living paycheck to paycheck are in for a huge surprise.

GOP RIP 1854 - 2011.

The hidden punch line in all this is that if interest rates are forced up even a little bit, we have accomplished practically nothing, as spending on debt service skyrockets. Things are a bit shaky.

Hobbits: The little people. They were simple honest folk who worked for a living, enjoyed life, and didn’t want power over others. They also turned out to be far more resilient than expected and tilted the balance of power so that good triumphed over evil. I’ll bet the far left worries even as they call us “hobbits”.

The Battle of Angband by Timothy S. Epperhart

Chorus:

(Am) The dwarves in their Kingdom (G) Barkuk khazud-dum,

(Fmaj7) The elves in Lothlori-on,(E)

(Am) Hobbits smoke and (G) sing a tale, (Fmaj7) The dunnish men (E) in ships we sail,(E7)

(Am) To the havens (G) we must hail, (E) Tell Sauron we will prevail,(E7)

(Am) Numenore(G)ans betrayed, (Fmaj7) Beware the ring wraiths in (E) dusky wade. (E7)

Through mirkwood in shadows,

A path to dale - orcs upon the hill, Knashing their teeth and knawing the

bones so brittle still To Thranduils we must heal.

The grey wizards lust for power is said,

To have been over won,

Gandalf the white still put up a fight,

And slain the dragons son.

The tower of the sun a battle so stale,

To darkness of the moon,

Morgul will hail,

Though Rohan ride onto the victory,

We've come to set you free.

Anything they passed in this bill can be wiped out in a future piece of legislation when averting another catastrophe yet again.

I just do not trust these putzes. Seen it too many times. No, we’ll never go beyond x. We’ll never let it get that high. WE have to change it to avert crisis 253.

Now I’m really confused. I cut my monthly spending by a dollar each month. But I raise the amount I CAN spend every month. And that’s a balance?

Sure, because you're not working - you're borrowing the money you spend, and you can borrow as much as you want, because someone else services your loan - forever.

So your only problem is to get the suckers who service your loan to continue to do so as you borrow more and more money.
