[Texas Sen.] Kay Bailey Hutchison won’t endorse Rick Perry for president
Houston Chronicle ^ | August 5, 2011 | Texas on the Potomic

Texas Gov. Rick Perry should not count on the support of his state’s seniority senator (and his 2010 Republican gubernatorial rival) if he decides to run for president.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Dallas, told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell today that she is looking for a Republican candidate with private-sector experience as her choice for the party’s 2012 presidential nomination.

....With the nation facing record deficits and ballooning debt, Hutchison said that real-life experience running a business would be a major asset in the White House — unlike the “academics” and politicians she said populate the Obama administration.

“I do hope we will have someone with more business experience in the White House,” she said.

Hutchison’s comments mean that the Texas governor will not have the support of either of his state’s senators if he launches a presidential bid, as has been widely speculated. Texas Sen. John Cornyn told Texas reporters last week that he has no intention of endorsing anyone in the wide-open nomination fight. He cited his role as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee as the reason for his neutrality.

Perry launched a series of blistering attacks on Hutchison during the 2010 gubernatorial primary. His campaign labeled her “Kay Bailout Hutchison” for supporting President Bush’s rescue package for the American financial system. He also attacked her for pork barrel spending, saying she was part of the Washington problem and not the Texas solution.

If Rick Perry gets in, will Karl Rove be out? ................Rove and other Bush allies began aligning themselves behind Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, a longtime Bush family ally, in challenging Perry in last year’s Texas gubernatorial primary. It was in the context of that bitter race that Carney in a 2009 interview with The New York Times Magazine disparaged the Bush crew — and Rove specifically — as “country-club Republicans” and “not conservatives.” ...........

If it wasn’t for KB Hutchison, there would be no TSA.

Thank goodness!!!

An endorsement from one of the Senate’s leading Rinos is the kiss of death. Now if can only keep McLame away from him.

I'm not sure whether or not this is a plus for Perry.

He's still at least 4th on my list after Cain, Palin, and Bachmann.

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is NOT going to support Perry?
Damn, I may have to look a little closer at him. He just may be better than I thought.

Does anyone care what KBH thinks? She couldn’t even win the Republican primary for governor in TX. I really doubt KBH Republicans will support Obama over Perry. Shut yer yapper, Kay!

I’ll 2nd the other opinions - that’s a good thing. KBH is better than a few, but there’s many more conservative folk who would fill her spot in the Senate.

If KBH had endorsed Perry (who as far as I know is still NOT RUNNING), then I’d be worried.

She'll be voting for Obama. Probably not for the first time.

1. KBH is at least as much a RINO as were the Bushes. So, “so what?” if she pointedly won’t endorse Perry.

2. Is it any effing surprise that the person WHOM PERRY JUST BEAT IN THE GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARY LAST YEAR, namely KBH, is still a bit huffy about not being crowned queen? So, again, “So what” if she won’t endorse.

I still need convincing that Perry is conservative enough to bother supporting early on. It’s a huge HELP to that case the KBH has her panties in a bunch against him, though.

What Perry needs is for McCain, Graham, Snowe, Specter, etc to not endorse him.

The Houston Chronicle is a commie rag who will push any piece of democrapic propaganda against Rick Perry, and Kay Bailey Hutchison is a socialist lying pig.

Nobody cares about Kay Bailey Hutchison and can’t wait until she falls off the cliff and resigns so she can be replaced with a conservative.

Ah yes. The thoroughly predictable behavior of the Republican Moderate, who whines at the top of her lungs about how we must get behind the most electable candidate for the good of "The Party," but when the candidate is not a Republican Moderate, she simply cannot bring herself to do that.

Party Unity means: "Conservatives get in line, Moderates, continue to do as you please, no matter how treacherous it may be."

The Bush's hate Perry. Running from Texas, he needs to make that point early and often, so that everyone in the country understands it. KBH's mean-spirited little rationalization is a great start.

IMHO....there just may be a significant "personal" difference between Mrs. Palin and Mr. Perry. Having been around for over 50 years...and having lived in many parts of the world, I've noticed that there seem to be two basic kinds of christians.

No...I don't mean the creed they follow. Heaven knows there are many many many more than two of them. No, here's what I think the difference is (at least to my eyes).

There are the "tshirt slogan" christians....and the "internalized" christians.

Here's what I mean. The "tshirt slogan" christians, while fine folk with strong beliefs, feel that they must advertise their "christianity" to any and everyone. I've seen these kind of folk throughout the world. You know the type and can "see" them in your own mind far better than I can describe them. Take Mr. Perry for exampe. Today, he's holding a political rally poorly disguised as a "prayer meeting". If you want to spend the time, take a look at the guest list! Showy....all about "christianity" while raising funds for a political campaign. IMHO...very poor judgement. One can only wonder why the good Gov. hasn't done one of these before. Why this one in particular comes at this particular time. Ah well, again, IMHO, very poor judgement...and gives me a terrible feeling of mis-trust in the guy. The phrase that keeps popping into my head is "all for show".

Now...the other....the "internalized" christians. There has been one and only one true saint alive - at least of whom I am aware - in my lifetime. And that is Mother Theresa. Yes...we all saw occasional pictures of her in her nun garb...usually when she was out and about trying to raise money to help her in her work. What we saw very little of was the day to day activity of this remarkable woman. A woman who let her chrisianity shine by busting her butt for the poores of the poor in sections of India where animals couldn't even live. No preaching...no "symbology", no praying...just vast amounts of very hard, very dirty work.

No I am not going to compare Mrs. Palin to Mother Theresa...except to say, that Mrs. Palin "wears" her christianity on the inside (as did Mother Theresa and countless millions of others do today). She lives by it. If asked about it, she will answer directly, truthfully (I honestly believe that if that lady every tried to lie, her tongue would snap out of her head!)...and then go back to doing her business. She leads by her life...and if that example convinces someone to become a christian or to follow a christian lifestyle, all well and good.

Give me the "internal" christian over the "tshirt slogan" christian any day. For the simple fact of the matter - at least for me - is this. I trust implicitly Mrs. Palin. What I "see" is exactly what I get. Take it or leave it. Scarce "grey" area. She is what she is.

As to Mr. Perry...I've no idea what is there. I get the queasy, uneasy feeling that - given the moment - he'll use his "tshirt slogan" christianity smoothly as a club, an inducement, or a reward...depending on the situation. But what is he like internally?? I have no idea. Worse, if he tried to tell me, I wouldn't believe him for a second. In short, Mr. Perry is a politician...and as far removed from real, "on the street" people as a politician can get.

So...if ever there comes a time to vote between these two, you now know for whom my vote will be cast. Take it or leave it.

Of course, IMHO.

Hutchinson makes a very good point regarding a Republican candidate having private sector experience. Another of my limus tests would be no Ivy league educations.
