Two GOP Senators Survive Wisconsin Recall Elections

Millions invested in elections for six GOP senators in what could be 2012 battleground state

By Tom Curry

At least two Republican state senators survived recall elections as votes were counted Tuesday night in Wisconsin in state Senate races which have gained national attention.

The two Republican winners were state Sen Robert Cowles and state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf.

Democrats, organized labor and progressive groups were using the recall effort to seek retribution against six GOP Senate allies of Gov. Scott Walker who enacted a labor law overhaul that ended collective bargaining rights for many public sector workers.

Walker and his allies also enacted a voter identification law and a redistricting plan, which is being challenged in court.

With the split in Wisconsin’s Senate at 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats, a net turnover of three would change party control.

In the 2010 elections, Walker won the governor’s office while the GOP gained four seats in the Senate, giving them the majority.

Next Tuesday.

We need at least one of the three Dem seats to put a lock on it.

And to think I could not even vote today. Well, maybe if I were a Dem - ahem.... naw. I couldn’t live with myself. MY senator is Glenn Grothman - one of the very best. They tried to recall him and the petition was nearly set on fire.

Dems here in Madison madtown are screaming from the rooftops for the two Dem victories. One of which is Hopper in the Fond du Lac area - he was ignored by the state GOP. That was a loss of only 1,251 votes. Sickening. But no thanks to any GOP too lazy to go out and vote.

WE will prevail. Thanks for your support.

I hope I am right as well! Keep your eye on Waukesha Co - they have only reported one precinct out of eleven. Heavily republican distrit - to the tune of 70% plus repub if I remember the last election correctly. I could be wrong but I think they will seal the deal tonight for Darling.

I’ll be going after our new governor here in TN to do the same. Tennessee is not hurting near as bad as the liberal meccas in the US. We need to make a statement. I will take some time to learn the correct way to present my case.

Too bad about Kapanke. What is it in the LaCrosse area that makes it tilt left? I lived up there for a few years back in the 80s and aside from the University and the union-friendly climate, it wasn’t apparent to me this was the case. Do you know why this area seems to be not as conservative as other parts of rural WI?

Yup ... and difficult choices were made (finally) for the good of the state. And real progress has (finally) been seen. Funny how the liberals, socialists, and communists are all bent out of shape about it.

Please don’t refer to us in Wisconsin as dupes.

Please do not misunderstand my post. Read it in context to what I was replying to.

I'm from California and, living in this glass house, certainly would NOT cast stones at an entire population of a particular state. Do not take offense. The comment was directed at those in your state...in any state...who would "vote to put more Democrats in charge? Especially after this week..."

I am sure you will, Sorry you couldn't vote today - I'm sure its similar to the feeling I have after watching 3 weeks of the BS commercials from the unions over here across the border

Do it before your state is inundated with illegal aliens.

Voters in a democracy get the government they deserve. If the people of Wisconsin really want to fund lavish salaries and pensions for public employee unions while their own financial health swirls down the toilet, that’s their problem.

Do you have a link for the Waukesha Co results. I can’t find anything on their website...

Darling was down by 1700 vote and then one precinct reported and she was down by less than 1200, so I hope a lot more like that are yet to report...

They hate free enterprise and the freedom to set your path. These kids are voting for a controlling force.
