US: Strike kills militants who downed US chopper (JUSTICE and REVENGE!)

An air strike by NATO-led forces in Afghanistan killed Taliban fighters, including a local leader, who were responsible for a weekend helicopter crash that killed 38 troops, the worst single incident in 10 years of war.

"We dealt with them in a kinetic strike," General John Allen, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, told reporters at the Pentagon.

Gen. Allen said the military tracked the Taliban fighters for several days after the helicopter went down. Forces reportedly trailed the fighters to a position in Chak District, Wardak Province, and then US F-16s struck and killed them Tuesday.

"The strike killed Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who fired the shot associated with the Aug. 6 downing of the CH-47 helicopter, which resulted in the deaths of 38 Afghan and coalition service members," the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

I see all the new weapons on the military channel that we refuse to use because we have to fight a “PC” war.”

You can be assured some of those weapons are not reported being used fo obvious reasons...that does not mean they aren't used.

Just so we’re clear, my comments have nothing to do with disrespecting our military. I just don’t like being played for a fool by politically minded officials.

I’m with you. I am curious about the question the MSM refuses to ask..... did the ROE prevent massive airstrikes to relieve the unit in trouble they were enroute to help?

That is the question that needs to be asked. Have our ROE neutered our use of air power?

Very good question.

"The death of so many of our SEALS was a crushig blow. Depressing...

I still haven't heard a good explanation of why 22 SEALS were on a single helicopter - my wife works with ex-special forces guys and they all say that is a highly unusual (to say the least) situation.

I also notice they we have gone from casualty counts along with names and bios of the fallen at the end of TV broadcasts to a virtual news blackout of how casualties have increased under Obama and his PC rules of engagement.

I don’t have a prob with the weapons...
I have a prob with the LEADERSHIP both in and out of the military...
and it’s personal because I know some of these people...

The Republicans need to make Obama’s incompetent conduct of the war in Afghanistan a major issue next year.

I understand that...but there are times when we need to be celebrating a victory when it comes regardless of who chooses to make it political. All wars are political...the troops have to abide by certain prodical..and yes depending on who sits in the office of the Commander in Chief.

But make no mistake about our troops when such an event happens as the seals going down. They will retaliate with or without approval...and no matter how it might be reported or not. And every Military commander knows this. Some will turn their heads and basically tell them “don’t get caught”. Others will construct whatever story is necessary to cover for the happening no matter how it’s carried out. They know the American public is fickle and gutless.

'Increased' is an understatement. We've lost more men in the last year there than in the preceding eight. Its sickening.

If we're not considering the politics inherent in this administration's Afghanistan policies we damn well should be.

How can they really know they got the guy who fired the shot? Did they have some human intel. that the guy was bragging it up and where he was?

The glaringly obvious is that this is what should of been done before the Rangers were sent in.

The Leadership ,if you’re refering to Obama and those who he appoints as commanders...I understand that. I also realize their hands are tied from getting the job done some other of these commanders want to do. That does not mean certain missions are not going to get done...this was one of them.

I certainly take it personally when friends and family are in harms way...and I think many Americans do as well. My father died from shrapnal wounds in his mission...so I most certainly understand the “fog” of war and the politics involved....it’s more than personal for me.

In this case our guys got these creeps and I am grateful our troops have that clear victory under their belt....Obama will always attempt to glean from these events...he cares not one way or another who dies.

guys the idea ought not be about avenging the loss— But I’m dam happy to hear it.the idea ought be to learn from the mistakes made when the Russians were bogged down in their Vietnam Afghanistan. the idea ought be to NEVER allow some
cluster f-— plan a mission where a second team chopper and crew is packed with 20 SEALS and NO slicks flying cover. And the good buddy of the weakest link in the chain of Command that authorized that failed support mission ought find himself in the pages of Rolling Stone explaining WHY he signed off on such a suicide mission. OR is it we are now so top heavy with SOG we gotta remove some from the GAO catalogue somehow?
