Bachman and Pawlenty fell into Wallace’s trap. Newt saved the night.

Cain gets better and better. He knows how to address problems. He has been doing it all of his life. He knows we need to enforce the existing laws on immigration and gaining citizenship and that will resolve a lot of the existing illegals continuing to be a burden

These questions:

Questioner: Mr/Mrs Campaignor, you once said_____ but in 2005 you___

Geez!

Gotcha questions.

Why not something like:

Questioner: Mr/Mrs Campaignor, President Obama passed the_____. What would you have done differently?

or

Questioner: Mr/Mrs Campaignor, your opponent once proposed ____ in order to ____. How would you deal with the problem?

One of the best lines of the night: "America's got to learn how to take a joke."

Yes, good slap at Obama.

Huntsman asked about illegal immigration: is he supporting citizenship for illegals? (Had to step out, missed his answer.)

Romney asked about immigration to. Secure border, employer crackdown, determine visa numbers based on needs of employment community.

Cain says enforce existing laws, promote current legal path to citizenship, empower the states to deal with immigration. "High fences and wide open doors."

Newt asked about boards for deciding who can stay and not. Suggests WWII selective service boards as model for local decision making. English as official language, attacks Obama's "moats and gator" talk.

Ron Paul opposes amnesty, suggests putting troops on border here, doesn't want businessmen as immigration enforcers. No entitlements for illegals, no mandate on the states to do it.

Gingrich is a disaster on immigration. We have the Rule of law. The idea that we reward some with amnesty and not others is ludicrous.

At this stage of the game in 1979, it was fashionable to say "I like Ronald Reagan, but he won't win over Moderate Republicans, Independents or Democrats that are dis-mayed with Carter...”

It's uncanny...
