Arctic Ice Melt Could Pause for Several Years, Then Resume Again
Science Daily ^ | Aug. 12, 2011 | Science Daily

Although Arctic sea ice appears fated to melt away as the climate continues to warm, the ice may temporarily stabilize or somewhat expand at times over the next few decades, new research indicates.

The computer modeling study, by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, reinforces previous findings by other research teams that the level of Arctic sea ice loss observed in recent decades cannot be explained by natural causes alone, and that the ice will eventually disappear during summer if climate change continues.

But in an unexpected new result, the NCAR research team found that Arctic ice under current climate conditions is as likely to expand as it is to contract for periods of up to about a decade.

...or the Earth could explode ...or Michael Bay could actually make a respectable movie ...or all volcanoes on the planet could erupt simultaneously ...or the sky could suddenly turn a lovely shade of green ...or the people of the United States could actually wake up and realize that power in the hands of government is actually a very dangerous thing Nah! That will never happen!

All of these things are entirely possible. Well, okay, except for the Michael Bay thing.....

I hate ice melt. I’d much rather be crushed under the several hundred feet of it that used to be here.

Global warming alarmism has been around long enough for people to start wondering why the horrible things the AGW cultists been babbling about aren't actually happening. So it becomes necessary for the AGW cultists to kick the can down the road a little further every few years. All doomsday cults do this.

Computer models aren’t science. They’re only as good as the data and assumptions put into them.

The Gamburtsev Mountain Range of Antarctica, a huge and mysterious “ghost range” buried beneath more than a mile of ice may well have been covered in ice for the last 1/2 BILLION YEARS!!!

Yes, there was ice at the Souf' Pole or pret' near, all through the age of dinosaurs, and even the carboniferous age!

2nd Translation:

“We are covering our bets by stating that if there is expansion of the ice, we’re claiming it’s only going to be for over the next few decades. Even if the expansion is much longer than that, who’s going to remember what we said, because...WE DON’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL WE’RE TALKING ABOUT, AND WE’RE ONLY GUESSING, ANYWAY”

The planet hasn’t “warmed” for about 11 years now. I think “Science Daily” needs to rename its publication.

I wonder if it’s true that the TV weather buffoons have been told to drop the “partly cloudy” forecast and always use the term “mostly sunny”. I heard that the other day.

Going way back, the earth has had more time without polar ice than with it.

Seems like the natural order order of things....given the Earth has been experiencing climate change since it created 'climate'. Btw, who writes this idiotic garbage articles? =.=

When this warming thing first came about, I remember Hillary (standing with Gore) saying that they were doing it to get young people involved....and lo and behold....

Happy Feet and dying polar bears, almost extinct critters like yucky condors, green shirts in school (made in China)

For the children?? or "USE THE CHILDREN"?

Yes. If it gets colder it’s global warming. If it gets warmer it’s global warming. If ice packs expand it’s global warming. If ice packs shrink it’s global warming. If it doesn’t rain tomorrow it’s global warming. If it rains tomorrow it’s global warming.
