Rapper could face charges tied to flash mob calls

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A rapper could face criminal charges after a tweet from his account incited a telephone flash mob that overwhelmed the emergency phone system at one of busiest stations of the Los Angeles County sheriff's department, the agency said Saturday. The sheriff's department alleges The Game tweeted the Compton station's phone number Friday and told his 580,000 followers to call the number if they wanted an internship. Phones at the southeast Los Angeles County station started ringing at 5:23 p.m. Friday, and the lines were jammed by hundreds of calls for more than two hours, prompting authorities to bring in additional help. Many callers hung up as soon as someone answered, while others asked deputies about a music internship. During that time people with legitimate issues that included a missing person, spousal abuse and two robberies were also trying to call in, department spokesman Steve Whitmore said. Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker said that when authorities finally figured out what had happened, he sent two tweets to the rapper asking him to take down the number. Instead, Parker said, The Game posted that his account had been hacked and also tweeted that it was an accident. "Yall can track a tweet down but cant solve murders!" the tweet said. "Dat was an accident but maybe now yall can actually do yall job !!!!"

Why is it the first time I ever hear of these rappers is when they are arrested? Although this Game idiot I might have heard of before from another attention whoring episode of his.

And BTW; Aren’t there antitrust/competition laws in this country? Why does every top 40 station I hear play the same 5 songs over and over and over and over? Does the public really need to hear that moronic “tonight tonight” song over and over, even at baseball games?

Everybody knows these songs are pure shiet, yet they keep playing them over and over and over. They are pushing and selling these songs by using repetition, not based on whether they are good or not. I thought Congress was looking into this a few years back? Or did the
‘Ratslook the other way once again for a price? Yeah, nice going. Now all we get on the radio is gay music even though gays only make up 2% of the population. Lady Ga Ga is #1. Yeah OK, and Obama is the greatest President in the history of mankind. Get the F outta here.

How can all these thugs and unemployed yewts afford to buy these cell phones and devices, and pay each month to operate them? I am retired, I know how to use these things, but not only can't I afford to purchase them, I can't afford the monthly payments for service. I could once. Not anymore, thanks to Obama those are luxuries I have had to cut out.

The Game posted that his account had been hacked and also tweeted that it was an accident.

It seems that The Game isn't intelligent enough to attempt the Weiner defense...not that it worked for Weiner either, of course.

Wonder if anyone died due to his tying up the PD’s emergency number . . . you know, The Game actually causing what he was complaining about?

It’s so nice I don’t have to worry too much about that kind of stuff. The radio stations around here are mostly country and classic rock, a couple of talk, and some Christian and one of the talkers and one of the country stations switches to oldies come 6pm on Friday until 5am on Monday. That other crapola is available, sometimes, depending on atmospheric conditions.

It's a lot more difficult to solve murders when thugs like this are promoting a "No snitching" culcha. Then they b**** when people follow suit and murders don't get solved. Go figure.

Arrest him and get him off the street, just means one less Obama voter! Though I’m sure the RATS will try to get the prison vote counted....

There are prepaid cellphones/plans like GoPhone from AT&T, WaltMart's Straight Talk or TracFone.

Here's a link to a selection at Walmart's website for example.

I saw a piece on this earlier and from that reporting I think it could be a dangerous precedent to charge him with "obstruction of justice" or some other bizarre thing having to do with disrupting radio frequencies.

They had better find an on-point law. No bending and twisting statutes to find something to throw at him because they're miffed their donuts and coffee were interrupted.

It was a non-emergency number. I find the distinction important. It's not like his tweet overloaded 911 which really would be more like the claimed "'Fire' yelled in a crowded theater" example.

It hasn't been shown he had the necessary mens rea, or criminal intent, here or even what his intent was.

We need to be careful when cases like this come up that we don't kneejerk against a "perp" because of his job, language skill or other irrelevance.

Today it could be prosecuting here on thin legal ground and tomorrow it could be prosecuting those advocating calls on issues.

Civil libertarians should watch how this plays out. If he had intent and clearly violated a statute, throw the book at him but watch out for overzealous prosecution by an embarrassed system.

Won’t happen = Eric, the racist, Holder will see to it that all charges are dropped.
