[Rick Perry] Introduction in 4 words: 'Hard work, faith, thrift'
Houston Chronicle ^ | August 13, 2011 | PATRICIA KILDAY HART, AUSTIN BUREAU

Posted on 08/14/2011 3:15:19 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

"Howdy."

In the very first word he uttered from the podium in South Carolina Saturday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry unsheathed one of the greatest assets he possesses in his quest for the presidency: an appealing life story that will allow him to connect with a broad swath of American voters.

The Aggie salute segued nicely into his national self-introduction, accomplished with sentimental recollections of a childhood spent helping his dad, a World War II veteran, grow "dry-land cotton and wheat" on a farm outside Paint Creek, a town so small it doesn't merit a ZIP code. He gave a shout-out to Troop 48, where he earned his Eagle Scout Award, and his mom, who sewed the clothes he packed for Texas A&M.

Why does this simple, hard-scrabble — but idyllic — childhood matter? "Hard work, faith and thrift." Ticking off the list of life values Perry carried with him from that West Texas farm, he invoked nostalgia with an implied promise that he could return the country to pre-Technicolor simplicity. "Thrift" - it's not a word we hear bandied around a lot these days.

Soon, legions of reporters will descend upon Paint Creek, but if they are looking for scandal - or even exaggeration - they will be disappointed. Perry's parents - Ray and Amelia - are the genuine article. She really did sew his boxers.

....Invoking the Reaganesque themes of job creation and optimism, Perry left little doubt which president he'd like most to resemble - though a fleeting Bushism escaped his lips when he reflected on the "sacrificial" Navy SEALS who died in Afghanistan last week.

Consider this concept: "All of us need to be reminded that the federal government did not create the states; the states created the federal government."

Gardasil-MANDATE
That "mandate" where you didn't have to take the vaccine if you didn't want to.

Open-Borders-for-Illegals
When has Perry EVER said that he's for open borders for illegals?

Rove-created Poser
So you're saying that Karl Rove was responsible for him getting elected to public office? You're really saying that? Rove ran ONE campaign for Perry, but I guess that means that Rove ran all of Perry's campaigns. I can see how you can make that blind leap. I guess Rove was using a Jedi Mind Trick this last when he endorsed KBH over Perry. That was just Rove creating Perry.

One should judge a RINO by his walk, not his latest talk.

One should judge somebody on FR by the bullsh*t they spew. I have no problem with somebody disagreeing with him on policy, but at least have the courtesy of getting your facts straight before spewing false accusations.

I am tired of people trying to make Perry out to be something he is not.

Yeah, the latest experts of TAMU here on FR have now concluded that the Corps is just a group of gay cheerleaders. Clearly they have never been to the campus, or know anything about it.

Sorry McLynnan, I didn’t mean you personally, I was just commenting on the tenor of this thread. I remember that snub of Perry by Obama, he will regret that, hopefully in the near future!

This is how you "create" jobs -- you create an environment that is friendly to employers!

Rick Perry:

FIRST: "Don't spend all the money!"

SECOND: "Have a fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy!"

THIRD: "Have a legal system that doesn't allow for over suing and make loser pay!"

"Hard work, faith and thrift" and "the States created the Federal Government..."

Well, I suppose Sarah Palin will be happy to have Perry chime in on what she's been saying all along... albeit his being three years late to the party.

What a simplistic dunce.

Three words: Fake, Phony, Fraud. He makes my skin crawl because he is a transparently slimy politician. I don’t much care about his stated policies or philosophy. This guy stinks and he has been bought.

"Wow, all this Perry bashing!

I don't mean to be "bashing" Perry as much as just trying to discuss his qualifications. Discussion is healthy!

Try not to be so hard on yourself, although, I do agree that your post is simplistic, shallow, and not pertinent.

In 2007, when Texas governor Rick Perry issued
an executive order that all girls entering the 6th grade
would receive Gardasil, parents were furious.
Some argued that the vaccine would promote promiscuity.
The order was eventually overturned."

" Critics rip Perry's vaccine mandate
Governor rejects opponents' calls to reverse order
AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry stood firm Monday against a political firestorm generated by his
order that sixth-grade girls be inoculated against a sexually transmitted virus linked to cervical cancer.
Social conservatives from Texas to Washington called on Perry to reverse his order making
Texas the first state to require the vaccine, saying the mandate makes sex seem permissible
and that parents should be the ones to decide whether to immunize their daughters.
And several Texas lawmakers expressed outrage at Perry for circumventing the legislative process. "

"RP65 - Relating to the immunization of young women
from the cancer-causing Human Papillomavirus.
Friday, February 02, 2007 o Executive Order
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF TEXAS
Rules. The Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner
shall adopt rules that mandate the age appropriate vaccination
of all female children for HPV prior to admission to the sixth grade."

The definition of mandate is a command by a person,
group, or organization (the 'mandator') to another
(the 'mandatary') to act in a particular way, or here
to ingest, inject, imbed a poison or other substance
they do not want and for which informed consent was
never taken.

I sense your frustration and your need to obfuscate. You’re going nowhere with the Gardasil thing, and lying while you do it. (When you deliberately mislead, it becomes a lie.)

Howdy.....

True that isn’t a salute as you’d define as given in the military with the raised hand to the temple, but it is a ‘traditional greeting’ as used among Aggies.

*********
Howdy

Many incoming students at Texas A&M choose to attend the campus because they feel that the students are friendlier than those at other universities.[6] This perception is created partly by the Aggie tradition “Howdy”, the official greeting of Texas A&M University. Students are encouraged to greet everyone they pass on campus with a smile and a howdy.[5] Howdy is the preferred method for a speaker to get a large group’s attention, as the members of the group are expected to return the “Howdy” back to the speaker.[12]

Which URL posted was a "lie", Clara Lou?
Or was the definition of MANDATE bothersome?
And please correct the record. Thanks.

And Perry and his BOTs know how to OBSTRUCT, don't they?

Jealous, misogynist RINO Governors Attempt to Silence Gov. Palin

"GOP Governors Pull the Plug On Palin's Press Conference
The Republican Governors Conference Press Guidelines promised
that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin would “take approximately
20 minutes of questions” at today’s morning press conference.
Instead, this press conference, attended by 150 local and national media
and taped by 26 video cameras, disintegrated into a fiasco
when Texas Governor Rick Perry shut it down after
only five minutes and four questions.
"

"Eight other governors assembled on the stage, all men, seemed
visibly uncomfortable with the “Palin at center stage” format.

When Perry stepped in front of Palin at the podium to announce
it was over just as it was getting started, Palin looked irritated,
and the media shouted, “You’ve got to be kidding,”
“This is ridiculous,” "Come on,” and
“We were promised more questions.”

So, the lefts first attack on Perry is that Texas has a $26 billion deficit under his watch. What’s up with that?

Reading your posts (including this last one), I see that you are an angry, extreme personality. I will do my best to remember not to respond to your posts. I just despise misrepresentation of facts (AKA “lies”).

In response to your question, I already answered it. Try rereading my post.
