I see you are supporting Sarah. I'll give you a little tidbit in smaller type so you don't get distracted. From 2001-2010, under Rick Perry Had the 4th smallest spending to GDP ratio in the country, and they went from the 8th smallest debt to GDP ratio to the 2nd smallest debt to GDP ratio during that time. During the same period, Alaska had the HIGHEST spending to GDP ratio, and the 3rd highest debt to GDP ratio - including all of the years of Sarah's governorship.
I won’t disparage other candidates, but his 5 years of military service and the 10+ years of real executive experience are strong pushes for Governor Perry.
Someone who flew C 130’s has proven his nerve.
A man who stood up to Molly Ivins and the rest of the lefty Texas media - not to mention the remaining Texas Dems who are just about as radical as you can get these days* - has proven his leadership.
* This does not include Bill White, who ran as far to the Right as any Dem in the last 30 years.
Thank you!
Thanks for the bumps, guys, but I’m on my way to work. Will be intermittent all day.
Except, forcing a vaccine on someone is tyranny.
That statement makes no fiscal sense. Spending goes up in proportion to increases in population and inflation just to maintain current services. And as I pointed out, the ratio of spending to total GDP stayed almost exactly the same - it only went up 1.5% in 10 years, or .15% per year.
just a couple of more links, on that credit up grade

I have recently learned more of the background on this. The state covered the cost for this vaccine for low income children. However, private insurance would not cover the cost unless it was a required immunization. Concurrently, the method for opting out was made simple. The form was put online and only had to be filled out once. Prior to this, forms had to be requested, in person if you really wanted to be sure to get one, and had to be renewed each year.
This mandatory aspect of it bothered me at the time, even though I thought the vaccine was a good thing. Understanding the reasoning behind the move makes it much more logical and less imposing. The facts were poorly communicated at the time, though
Nice. When you can't make your own argument, misrepresent the positions of others. Very honest and ethical of you.
This reminds me of the Romney campaign spin in the last presidential election.
Good job on your research!
Well, what SHOULD we do with kids that have been “here” since infancy, who have become good citizens?
Memo to FreeRepublic people — we’re not gonna put them all on buses and send them home. It’s not gonna happen. We must secure the borders and fix ICE(would’ve been wonderful if Nixon or Carter or Reagan or Bush 41 or Clinton or Bush 43 would’ve done it) — that is where conservatives need to address their efforts and anger.
We’re talking about hocndoc here. And I misrepresented nothing.
Do your research, FRiend. She posted a huge vanity about how wonderful the Dream Act is.
And if you think I was misrepresenting Perry and his pro-Dream Act and pro-amnesty views.... then again. Do you research.
I'll admit that I haven't read every speech Perry has given since he announced Saturday, but the ones I have seen were filled with stuff about jobs and the economy, and I heard very little about social issues. Now, I have heard him address some social issues in interviews and Q&As, but that was in response to direct questions about those topics.
Since the Texas Dream Act has nothing to do with amnesty, yes, you are misrepresenting her position.
1) So the government grew by nearly half it’s size in just a decade?
2) Agreed.
3) Numbers are numbers. You said yourself that the state passed a lot of bond issues... meaning the state borrowed the money.
4) Perry has been a vocal supporter of the TTC from Day 1.
5) We have the same issue in Maine: an independent and then a democrat governor, both of whom increased evry conceivable use tax, fee, etc. over the last decade but ran on a platform of never raising INCOME taxes. The end result is that the people of Maine are left with less money in their pockets while the government has increased its regulatory power.
6) Agreed. Texas also has a huge problem with illegal aliens, which impact lawful employment.
7) Well at least he supported a AGW-worshipping socialist who was pro-family.
8) Agreed.
9) Again, the numbers don’t lie. If the numbers are concentrated in and around major population centers, that doesn’t matter. While I agree on your point about illegal aliens, are you seeing a pattern emerge?
10) Who cares?
11) Agreed, although this speaks volumes about the number of jobs being exported.
12) “President Fox’s vision of an open border is a vision I embrace” -Perry in 2001
Perry believes the border is a federal issue, which backs up HIS ABSOLUTE SUPPORT FOR GRANTING AMNESTY TO ILLEGAL ALIENS. While he talks a good game, he signed the TX DREAM Act, supports sactuary city policies and benefits for illegal aliens, and has also signed legislation that keeps guidelines inplace to keep LE from finding illegals.
Likewise, being tough on crime and gang violence is not the same as being tough on illegal immigration.
Perry is as pro-illegal as his predecessor, GWB.
13) See 11.
14) I think the point is that it is not the pervue of the government to force a vaccination for non-lethal diseases on anyone. Perry’s position was that of a big-government advocate... which is the point of his detractors.
I’ll pick Perry over Wrongney any day of the week, but he’s not the most conservative candidate. Not by a long shot. Personally, I’ll take my chances with a truly conservative candidate than with the candidate that gets the most endorsements from the MSM and the RINO-controlled GOP. The amnesty support is a deal-breaker for me: if amnesty passes, America is finished.
Look FRiend. The very essence of the Dream Act is pro-Amnesty.
And are you hocndoc? Why are you defending her? Let her speak for herself. I’ve seen enough of her postings to know: She is pro-Amnesty.
Let her come back here and deny it if she wants, but I’d suggest you speak for yourself about your own positions.
OK? OK.
Exactly what I was thinking. Slick vs. Slick. Haven't we had enough?
I sure have.
You lie. I am not pro-amnesty.
I am aware of the effort that it takes for a family to break the barriers to send that first child to college.
I’ve also absolutely said that we should be able to identify and deport families who put their kids in our k-12 schools.
The feds refuse to allow us to do that, we have not done what it takes to force the feds to do that, so that it’s not uncommon for the children to grow up believing they are Americans.
