Pull over, Sarah Palin: President Obama's bus is about to run yours off the road.
The $1.1 million (yep, you read that right) Obamamobile is, according to the Associated Press, "an impenetrable-looking conveyance the size of a cross-country Greyhound, painted all in black, with dark tinted windows and flashing red and blue lights." The rubber is hitting the road for the president's current trip to Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois.
Two of these superbuses were commissioned by the Secret Service to chauffeur the commander-in-chief around the country -- along with the eventual Republican presidential candidate and visiting dignitaries. While these babies don't come cheap, the protection service decided the buses, normally leased and retrofitted to provide presidential protection, would pay for themselves over their projected 10-year lifespan.

As near as I can figure out, the bus was used to take him from one airport where Air Force One lands, go to a nearby town, give a speech or two, return to the airport, load up AF One and the other planes and head out to the next airport!
Did he actually travel on the bus from MN to IA to IL????
“Around the country” needs to be revised in any event!!
They might even save money if the family took it on vacation and actually did take a “tour of the country” instead of going to Martha’s Vineyard. Nah - I guess that wouldn’t be classy enough.

Seriously, why didn’t they paint the bus with colors similar to Air Force 1? Black might be the expected color for limos but it doesn’t work with buses.
I don’t think Obama personally chose the color. I think the decision to make the buses came before Obama took office.

While we are spending money at such a ridiculous rate, I really have NO PROBLEM with 2.2 million for 2 busses. We live in a new age and security for the wackjobs are unfortunately a big part of that. This expenditure is so ridiculously small that it probably doesnt come close to the extra money spent while on this 3 day bus trip.

I’m about on the same page when it comes to August vacations. Every President takes them, every President works on vacation and is a step away from work at all times. Give the guy a break. If you want to hammer him for the other 47 vacations per year fine, but come on, lets not sound like the wackjobs that gave GW a hard time for goign to Crawford for 5 weeks.
They could have bought American-made buses.
If I were a Republican candidate, I’d make damn sure the bus was totally dismantled and swept for video/audio bugs before even thinking about boarding....

Actually when you consider how many new people have to be hired just to clean up the highway of the bodies obama has thrown under his bus, it will pay for itself before the election.

OK FOLKS, let’s make this clear, and get this viral.
Obama DID HAVE A CHOICE, a similar bus and chassis are available in America, the ALLEGRO Bus/RV, built by Tiffin in RED BAY, ALABAMA.
They probably COST MORE, because they have to abide by thousands of choking US Government job-killing regulations, but they were available!
