Ahmadinejad to visit Caracas, Venezuela to move its gold
Hot Air, Green Room ^ | Aug. 17, 2011 | Fausta Wertz

An article about how Chavez is moving Venezuela's vast gold reserves out of places like London and Switzerland to places like Russia, China, and Brazil. Ahmadinejad's presence and his involvement in this happening isn't really gone into.

A bit of a warning: there's a prominent photo of a bloated, post-chemotherapy Chavez in the article that may offend many people's sensitivities.

As a side note, it mentions Ahmadinejad planning to be present in New York on September 11th, the 10th anniversary.

I’ll take care of the gold for him, no need to ship it all the way to China.

If he’s in New York it means there are no plans for a 10 yr event in New York. But certainly he’d be there to celebrate, just like Obama.

This is what America’s handing over a little of our sovereignty to the UN means for New York, among many other things.

Much of it is to be stored in the Central Bank in Caracas, but I don’t understand why it would be stored in the other countries, particularly Brazil.

Sorry, pal. PM Harper is a great friend of Israel and he knows right from wrong. He wouldn’t let Ghaddafi land a few years ago. He won’t let this dirtbag on Canadian soil either. Bank on it.

I saw that thread too. It’s hard to understand what’s being done here. But that difficulty might be from coming at it from a sensible person’s perspective. Being self-defeating has never really bothered socialists, crypto-communists, modern Democrats, etc.

Maybe Chavez figures that if he’s going to die, Venezuela is bloody well going to die with him.

Plausible - he wouldn’t be the first demagogue to have that view.

How about we move Chavez’s Gas stations out as well?

Could this transfer of gold in reality be a payment for something?

That’s an interesting question, one I hadn’t thought of. I could see part of it being that, but I don’t know about the transfers in their entirety. I think it’s a bigger shift than just a payment, and a shift in thinking there too.

The gold story here is that the scramble for physical gold may be beginning, and Chavez doesn’t trust the London vaults not to be oversubscribed.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that might be a factor, but wasn’t sure if so, and how much.
