Perry Plays Obama, Media Like a Fiddle
Pajamas Media ^ | August 18th, 2011 | The PJ Tatler

Posted on 08/18/2011 5:33:23 PM PDT by shield

When Gov. Rick Perry returns to Austin this weekend, he’s likely to return to a hero’s welcome. He launched his campaign in a flawless rollout in South Carolina last weekend, captured the top spot in Rasmussen by double-digits, and is off to a dominating start in the GOP primary. Perry’s welcome will take all of that into account, as well as something else: Those of us who have watched him campaign have seen him blitz like this before, and in the past it has been a prelude to a long, entertaining campaign and ultimate victory.

The first week since Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced his run for the presidency has gone something like this: Perry says something provocative, media pounces, Obama reacts, and Perry either re-states what he said or ups the ante by saying something new and just as provocative. The media wonders aloud whether Perry is able to stay on script and establishment Republicans like Karl Rove toss out warnings that Perry may have gone too far. All of that misses the possibility, which I treat as fact, that Rick Perry knows exactly what he’s doing and this first week has gone exactly as he expected.

What many, and I include Rove and Huckabee and his other critics in this, don’t seem to understand is, this is how Rick Perry campaigns. And wins. He understands the media and his opponent better than they understand themselves. The media that fretted when Perry shot a coyote last year missed the fact that most Texans reacted to that same story with something along the lines of “The governor packs heat and protected his dog while jogging? Cool.” Perry is using the media’s own elitism and lack of connection with mainstream America against it, and against Obama, turning both against each other.

1. Doesn't matter how much actual proof you have WRT Perry's un-conservative behavior,

2. All proof is dismissed as <> DU-inspired, <> SOROS-inspired, <> just plain wrong, <> you just want Obama to win, <> your're a Paultard, <> or some type of lame excuse which doesn't explain a thing.

3. Only Perry can win, never mind there is no actual proof of this.

Just like the 2007-2008 build up of McCain leading into the primaries and beyond. The GOP establishment SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP mentality is alive and well.

Selection and coronation is underway.

Big difference Jim Robinson of course is a Palin supporter first, as I am....but he is also a Perry supporter...

I noticed that on the last day of the Freepathon. Mr. Robinson's positive view of Perry prompted me to contribute more than my dollar a day. And I prefer swagger over swish.

Yes, the article is spot on.

I remember thinking, when Perry’s name first began to surface, that a Perry candidacy would be fun to watch because Perry had already demonstrated the ability to get under Obama’s skin. This article explains how Perry does that.

They remind me of those who supported Rudy. Oh it is Sarah they are fighting for...however, Sarah Palin doesn’t need or want this type of garbage fight...her and Rick Perry are very good friends and both of them have a whole lot of respect for each other...I’m posting Perry threads to help him...he has announced...didn’t post many Perry threads if any until he announced...until Sarah Palin steps forward and announces...I remain on the side lines for her...check out my profile and see who I support. Since the day barry won that is how my profile page has been.

Someone very close to Perry must have written this. He is fighter and knows how to campaign...he also knows how to run a state with his job creation and the economy.

Barry probably went oh chit...Perry has been in his face many times and barry can't hold a candle to him...and he's probably very scared of Perry.

2. Only Perry can win, nevermind there is no actual proof of this. This reminds me of the Rudy supporters who infested FreeRepublic for a while.

Seems like a form of astro-turfing to me.

Is this just me, or has anyone else noticed the pattern? “

We have ALL noticed : )

1.his Texas DREAM Act

2.his Open Border stance and ‘love’ for illegals.

3.Endorsing Fruity Rooty Julie-Annie!!!

Strike 3, Mr Perry...yeeeeeeeeeeeeerrr OUT!!

You CANNOT..in 2012...run ANY political campaign that is ambiguous about your immigration “position” in the current job market.

Unemployed Americans are looking for assurances of their governments’ concern about THEIR plight...not that of businesses forced into looking for disposable labor because of onerous tax and regulatory policy.

Illegal Labor is the Feds out for preserving the status quo regarding Taxes and Regulation...and is the ultimate litmus test as to the candidates in question commitment to meaningful regulatory and tax reform. If they are wishy-washy on the subject...they have no real intent to disturb the DC status quo...no matter how big their cowboy hat and six-gun.

You should recognize that much, not all but much, of the anti-perry attacks on this forum are made by staunch palin supporters who see a threat to their dream.

Maybe. However, I question whether many of these so-called Palin supporters are actually Romney operatives and supporters who are dodging the Jim Robinson decree that there will be no Romney support on FR. How better to smear Romney's competition than under the guise of being a "Palinista"?

Romney and his FR supporters have shown in the past that there is no limit to the backstabbing, low down tricks they will try in order to defeat the competition. We saw it in '07 and '08.

I'm a Palin supporter, but if she doesn't run I will happily give my primary vote to Perry since the "perfect" candidate doesn't seem to be available...whoever that is. Jesus Christ prolly couldn't provide a US birth certificate anyway.

I will go a step further. I genuinely believe that Palin is unelectable, that is the sole reason that I fight the palinistas here. I do not want to see her win the nomination because imo that just buys us four more years of dear leader.

Now, if I were on the left and believed the same thing then I would be doing my flat-out best to pump her up everywhere I could (including here) and I would be doing my flat-out best to villify any anti-palin voice (as is done here every day).

It is my considered opinion that there are post-2008 freepers who are here from the left and who are doing their flat-out best to put her in the nomination and to silence any opposition voice.

I am not the only freeper who believes this.

Why not tell us here in Texas...why you'd ever in a million years re-elect MCCAIN as senator...you have a whole lot of room to talk when you re-elected that old rino fool to represent you in the senate.

Now Rudy is about as opposite of Perry as you can get...what a very poor comparison. You need to try a bit harder than that...

Rudy=pro-choice, pro=gay etc. And as Jack Wheeler said yesterday...

Sixth, if you want perfection, die and go to heaven, as that's the only place you'll find it. If you want a Messiah, pray for the Second Coming, but don't demand it of a Republican presidential candidate. If you want miracles, pray that the Almighty will perform them, but don't expect them to be performed by a human being, POTUS or no.

Last time I checked, SJB didn’t re-elect John Foster McKane.
That distinction is left to the retired liberal Republicans who retired here from the east coast, and the ASU/U of A monsters.

McCain also spent $21,600,000 to buy his way back in, as opposed to J.D. Hayworth, who spent $1,650,000.

Sounds like Perry is Geraldo’s pick.

Further proof that Perry is far too liberal to be called a conservative.

Liz—Thanks for your post. I thought I was the only one who saw the Perry ploy for what it was. Your short, well written narrative captured Perry’s Iowa trick to leap ahead of those who’ve already put time and treasure into their presidental bid.

It didn’t work, but from the Perry hustlers here on FR and from Onada’s propaganda organs you’d think he was The One.
