Rick Perry believes exactly the same thing about open borders and illegal aliens as Obama. And Perry has done great things to help Muslims in Texas. Obama can skin Perry like a catfish with those two issues. If they both believe the same about illegal immigration and muslims how would Obama "skin" Perry? If they both have the same views on a topic (hypothetically speaking) then that topic is essentially taken off the table. It's comparative analysis 101.
