For the second time in a week, a flash mob robbed a convenience store in our area. Could it be a new trend in the Washington region?
In the latest incident, 10 women stormed the Shop Express convenience store along Benning Road in northeast Washington at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday.
They loaded up on food, drinks and snacks at different parts of the store.
Some of the women were carrying bags to hold some of the items. Then they all rushed out of the store at the same time without paying.
Employees said that each of the women stole about $60 worth of merchandise.
"Stealing is a very normal thing at convenience stores," one employee said. "It happens every day -- morning, evening, night. But such kind of thing I have never seen before."
Store employees said this was the third such incident at the store in the past couple of weeks, and that if the trend continues, the 24-hour store will have to close at night.
This store is not alone in its flash mob troubles. Last Saturday, a flash mob took over a 7-Eleven in Germantown.
Investigators in Montgomery County said they know who some of the suspects are, but they are hoping people will recognize the others and call police.

Oh, come on. If they want to compete in D.C. they’ll have to do a lot better than that.
Lock ‘em inside when a group like that comes in, then call the animal control hotline.
They're youngish.
Ultimately, the way it will be solved will be the ghetto way. Stores will become armored dispensaries. People will only be let in in small numbers, while the staff will be protected with bullet-proof glass. The doors will lock in the few customers allowed in at any one time. Cameras will be everywhere.
Costs will go up; shopping will be slow and involve long lines for access.
At that point, it will be easier to rob the customers who have gone into the stores than to rob the stores themselves. Other measures will be taken.
Everything will become more expensive.

If these things are all being set up using cell phones and the so-called social media tools, then it should be not too difficult to identify all or most of the members of these flash mobs. Identify at least one person who was involved; subpoena their phone records and social media records (in this case, the fetish that facebook and others have for putting all of their systems together and tracking their users across different domains becomes a potent weapon); trace from the communication(s) that relate to the flash mob to see who this person communicated with, and follow the chain of communications until you’ve identified all or substantially all of the potential participants; question those identified to see if there’s any reasonable explanation for their participation in the communication about the flash mob and whether there is any evidence that they did not participate; finally, identify the ringleaders and if you can show that they have set up or worked on at least three flash mobs involved in criminal activity, prosecute every single person who participated in that flash mob under the relevant state RICO act.
This is more a failure of imagination on the part of the public prosecutors than it is of the police.
the stores should have turnstyles....the stores need cameras that somehow alarm when a large group approaches and then automatically the door locks.....maybe the stores should just close.....then Moosehell will have another cause to dress up for .....
All it takes is one dead punk to send a message.

More food deserts in the making I see. They do this sh** then wonder why no one wants to run a store in their areas. Time for store owners to start shooting them in wholesale lots, this sh** would stop in a hurry then. the thieves are
counting on no one taking action against them.
A semi-competent shooter could take out all 3 of these monkeys before they get a shot off.....if you wanna riot, you damn well better do it in states where good folks don’t pack.
I know too many decent, hard-working black folks that will be the first to take out some of these punks if they wanna tear zhit up in my neighborhood.....
