Rick Perry first to comment - cautiously - on Libya
Politico ^ | August 22, 2011 | Alexander Burns

Posted on 08/22/2011 10:10:57 AM PDT by caroline2005nc

The Texas governor is first out of the gate with a statement commenting on Muammar Qadhafi's imminent demise, but not taking a position on the overall wisdom in the mission in Libya (and using a spelling of Qadhafi that I have not seen before):

"The crumbling of Muammar Ghadafi’s reign, a violent, repressive dictatorship with a history of terrorism, is cause for cautious celebration.

"The lasting impact of events in Libya will depend on ensuring rebel factions form a unified, civil government that guarantees personal freedoms, and builds a new relationship with the West where we are allies instead of adversaries."

One of the candidates criticized for his limited international experience is first out of the blocks with a statement... Perry is handling himself quite well in this race so far.

I’d much rather know what Perry thinks of the very irregular approach “O” took involving the US in Libya

A perfect time to keep your mouth shut, at least until you know the plans of the “rebels”. He should have learned from what happened in Egypt.

What specifically did he say about employing the tactic of bombing someones grandchildren as a shot in the dark when you can’t find them?
And the President who chose to take that route?

I not only oppose any supposed candidate who lacks the integrity to weigh in on that, I oppose their followers.

Period.

When an illegal alien enters this nation it isn't irregular it is illegal. When someone robs a bank it isn't an irregular way to get money it is illegal. Obama's war against the Libyans wasn't irregular it too was illegal and he should be tried and jailed for it. Our illustrious House of representatives, led by the worst speaker we could imagine, has once again not bothered with doing their job and let that criminal in the WH act as dictator. We don't need a change in Washington; we need a reckoning.

Have not seen or heard anything from any Democrat except the “lame” statement from POTUS Obama. I suspect the Democrats will remain silent or muted, awaiting to see if Libya turns out as Egypt did with the Muslim Brotherhood taking power and the Egyptian killing of Jews in Israel now sanctioned by Obama and his ilk!! I predict Libya will go the same way as Egypt just as Obama desired along with his America haters, Jeremiah Wright and Louie Farrakhan!!!

A good point but I might add the gurus of Washington and a Texas Governor should have damn well known what would happen in Egypt. I did. Probably most FReepers and anyone with half a brain knew where Egypt was heading and what the result would be.

I doubt anyone will mourn the loss of Ghaddafi but to think a Western style Democracy will suddenly appear in this Muslim nation is absurd. We could, and most likely will, end up with worse than the Ghaddafi regime. A good first test will be too ask them to hand back over the Lockerbie bomber to finish his time in prison. What do you think the odds of that are? How many of the current "rebels" and the new leaders does anyone think were dancing in the streets both at the downing of that jet over Scotland and the release of the bomber?

Yes Perry and anyone with Presidential aspirations should, as you say, keep their mouth shut. A wait and see attitude is something he should know intuitively.

Barry completely circumvented Congress to launch this unprovoked War on Libya, essentially flushing the Constitution down the toilet. You will NEVER see Perry condemn this act because he is just as much a Globalist as Obongo.

>>>>>>>>where we are allies instead of adversaries."<<<<

Interesting take. Gaddafi regime was U.S. ally in WOT until attacked by UKUSA/France.

The bulk of rebels are AQ.

If Perry thinks that Gaddafi was an adversary instead of ally, it implies that he supports terrorist side in WOT.

This would make a hell of a question on a press conference.

I get the impression that Perry is careful with public money. While he would never say so, I imaging he would prefer the billion we used for Libya as opposed to the trillion spent for Iraq. Of course, a lot of politicians’ opinions in the next few months will depend on how Libya shakes out.

He has to check in with his lobby money first , let them give him his Libya policy. Sort of like the Gardasil makers. They gave him lots of money , he checks in to find out his policy was to make every girl in Tx get the shot.

With all due respect, Gaddafi was the godfather of terrorism. He had American soldiers and civilians killed in terror attacks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_Berlin_discotheque_bombing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTA_Flight_772

The fact that he tried to maneuver Libya out of the crosshairs during the WOT doesn't make him an ally. It makes him an opportunistic weasel.

If Perry thinks that Gaddafi was an adversary instead of ally, it implies that he supports terrorist side in WOT.

Much like Gaddafi Saddam Hussein also was an adherent of Islamic socialism. The fact that both had little sympathy for AQ was not of an ideological nature, but because they were the competition, a threat to the dictators' respective power bases. Using your logic operation Iraqi freedom was a plot to aid the terrorists and other than in Afghanistan Bush supported the terrorist side in Iraq.

I simply can't understand all the sudden sympathy for Gaddafi in these forums here. I don't think the soldiers that saw their comrades blown to pieces in Berlin share these feelings.

Prokopton, MrEdd, and others, are spot on.

you’d understand too, if you had been reading FReepers posts about Libya for the past few months.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2766344/posts?page=44#44
there’s some links here, that shows the MAJORITY of the “rebels” ARE Islamists!!!
Even moreson than in the “arab spring” of Egypt!

Perry is smart enough, he should have done a TINY bit of research, before speaking.

Perry is a GOOD man.
i believe a good Christian.
but, he is ignorant about Islam.

in his OWN state, he helped pass a law for Halal meat,
helped built Gulen schools with taxpayer money,
personally praised “the religion of peace”,
and quoted approvingly from the Quran.

NOT the leader we need, for this century,
Islam IS our enemy. Muslims kill 99% of our troops.
Perry is a nice guy. We need someone who understands Islam.

Rick Perry is the real deal...to heal America’s wounds after zero and his minions. Suck it up Red and learn to say: “President Perry”...it will be good for America...

is it too much to ask for a candidate,
who is NOT endorsed by C.A.I.R. ?

(CAIR Houston
“The Muslim community has a significant number of political conservatives,
and they do support Perry,”
said Mustafaa Carroll, executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations in Houston, “)

.
...a candidate who is NOT proud of a law to make food sacrificed LITERALLY in the name of Allah ?

http://www.freeandjust.org/Events.htm#halal
Texas Halal Law Signing Ceremony with Governor Rick Perry
Halal food, is PART of Sharia law.
the food is killed, after a prayer to ALLAH.
it is meat sacrificed in the NAME of Allah.

(and not permissible to MOST evangelical Christians!)

...and, Islam and Sharia law efforts, are progressing nicely under Governor Perry:

Personally I don’t care who comments first. If that’s what conservatives will vote on, we deserve the pathetic government we’ve got.

you speak for ALL Texas ?
seems i’ve read a LOT of them, who think he’s a big government Rhino. but i’ll even concede you are correct.

Perry would be good for American jobs and business.
but, the ORIGINAL article of this thread, shows he has NO understand of the Islam HE HIMSELF has supported and promoted!
He’d create a strong prosperous America,
with a GROWING Islamist pro-Sharia community.
as the GULEN schools ALREADY in Texas prove.

and the Arab spring is an ISLAMIST movement. after it consolidates, it will be TOO LATE to save the Israel that Perry claims to be a friend of.

you cannot be a friend of Israel, and tell people Islam is a religion of peace and quote taquiyya and abrogated verses from the Quran, as Perry has DONE himself !

Perry is a GOOD man. but he doesn’t understand Islam !
