Last one in VA was a 5.8 in May, 1897. Pretty rare event. But excellent excuse for “disaster stimulus” economy and federal “help me” status. In short, a whole lot of woo-woo.
Nobody talking to the people IN Mineral, VA? Why not?
ROFL! Rove handed the Earthquake Machine over to Sarah!
I guess it would be asking too much for you to read the thread, click on some of the links folks on FR have provided and find out that this happened along a known and documented seismic area.
>>>Kate Hutton from Cal Tech is on a forum I am on and she said this was on a rare Appalachian Fault, not New Madrid.
According to the 0bama regime, it’s Bush’s Fault.
Overloaded lines, I bet.
'cuz it's gone, man...
I'm a lifelong Californian ... I know the feeling! They're saying it was a 5.9 -- that's pretty respectable. Also, it depends on the kind of ground you're on as to how it will feel. A dinky little 5.4 hit near where I live about three years ago, the epicenter less than half a mile away, and it was a solid, frightening, fast jolt, but not much more (though it certainly "disoriented" me for a bit!). Yet five to eight miles away on either side of the ridge where I live, that little quake lasted for nearly a minute (wave lengths, like a pebble tossed in water) and wreaked havoc in quite a few stores, with entire inventories crashing down off of shelves.
Earthquakes are remarkably effective reminders of just WHO is in charge on this ol' earth ... and it ain't man! They can be pretty humbling!
I was a mile and a half from Northridge... they're rookies.
Quix, there was a 3.6 last summer, and a smaller one before that...........
There is a fault line
Wow. I was going to say we’ve never had an earthquake here in southern WI, however there was a weak one that was felt around here maybe a year ago? I did not even know it happened, but some were awakened by it that night. Lucky dogs! (fill in own joke here)
I also missed an awesome meteorite in 2010. Sometime in the spring. It was around 9pm, when I usually go out to the barn. Of course that night I went out later and missed a HUGE meteor. I was (still am) sorry I missed it. It was epic.
“Behold, His mighty hand...”
RIght?!! Hurricane IRENE...spares Rush's house and is passing right over Obama too.....the power of Rushbo.
Uh, no, check out post 729.
1. Mineral is a very tiny town and there's not many people to talk to.
2. Everyone is at the polls voting in the primaries.
Yeah, sorry to hear about your daughters parts... :(
PING.
Welcome to California.;)
On FB I posted God is speaking, I hope we listen.
Maybe they are trying to ‘push’ you to doing something about that cesspool in DC................
And in Florida for the last 6 yrs.....nothing. And we can't get OR afford insurance.
