Well, if I were there I'd right now, be totally prepared, as this could very well be a foreshock for a really big one. Not likely, but very possible.
Those making jokes about a 6 range earthquake, never were on top of one, or were not near an epicenter of a 6 range. Even a 6 can make you think the world is coming to an end if near the epicenter. Been there.
But this being felt in such a wide region of the country, is concerning, this could have simply been a foreshock to, say a 7.5 or more. Hopefully not.
Give some examples of foreshocks.....
God bless you.
And don’t think this Easterner doesn’t have some (minor) concern of the same thing, as it is.
I live in Columbia/Ellicott City, MD - almost all my life. Back c.1990 we had a whole series of shakes BASED RIGHT HERE (a well-known major highway intersection south of Columbia)! They were no worse than ~3.3, mostly 2.5, but they were close to us and they kept happening - the local community college put out “earthquake alerts” on 1 of their channels continuously for weeks at least. That’ll put us on notice that shocks can keep happening.
Also, last year people got a big laugh out of the highly localized quakes south of us in Montgomery Co, MD. My friend down there felt a bit of it, but up here we didn’t. Precursor?
