Is Rick Perry a Dope?
Pajamas Media ^ | August 25th, 2011 | Roger L Simon

Posted on 08/25/2011 9:12:25 AM PDT by shield

Despite being the longest serving governor of one of our most populous states, a state currently generating more jobs than the rest of the country combined (or close), Rick Perry is supposed to be a dummy. At least, that’s what some of the lefty blogs and pundits would have us believe — you know, brainy types like Ed Schultz.

I am a graduate of two so-called elite Ivy League universities and I never noticed this problem when I met Perry. But never mind. Maybe an intellectually-challenged reputation is good to have from a stealth point of view. Remember Tom Sawyer and that fence?

Unfortunately, however, the jig is up. As of the last few days “Rick Perry and His Eggheads: Inside the Brainiest Political Operation in America” has been making the rapid rounds on Kindle (#2 in “politics and current events”). This download is actually a longish chapter excerpted from a work-in-progress by Sasha Issenberg — “The Victory Lab”> — about new, scientifically-based campaign techniques said to be transforming the American electoral process.

The chief architect of Perry’s strategies — and central figure in the chapter — is Dave Carney, a hulking three hundred pound, six foot four political pro from New Hampshire who once worked for George H. W. Bush. Said to be camera shy, if Perry wins, or even if he is nominated, Carney is likely to become as much of a household political name as Karl Rove or David Axelrod.

Indeed, if I were Axelrod, I would have been up last night poring over “Rick Perry and His Eggheads.” It’s filled with radical ideas about campaigning. Carney abjures such staples as lawn signs, targeted mailings, robocalls (Thank God!) and even, to a large extent, TV ads...........

You know you are only smart if you are a lib. If they can dumb down Bush, Palin, Perry... then they win in public opinion.

Rick Perry is not a dope. He is, however, George W. Bush, Jr.

Rick Perry: “Certainly you are not going to see a philosophical difference between Rick Perry and George Bush. We share the same type of political philosophy.”

Perry’s words, not mine.

Compassionate conservatives with a globalist outlook.

Dope?

Nope, I see him as more of an arrogant, pompous ass who has a tin ear for the appearance of impropriety,

That said, I will still vote for him if he is the last man standing.

The Democratic strategy vis-a-vis Perry is painfully obvious: create as many Bush 43 parallels as possible.

I think the question becomes is there ANY prominent ‘conservative’ or ‘tea party’ candidate that the left or Progressives won’t denigrate as ‘dumb’ or ‘stupid’ or ‘simple’ and so on?

I had to listen to two of these a44h0les behind me on a flight yesterday from JAX to ATL. They went through a laundry list of popular candidates and decided that between all of them they couldn’t rub three brain cells together.

But they were worried that the Won might not get elected, and that would still be Bush’s fault.

Fortunately we were only in the air 33 minutes.

I don’t mind if Perry is similar to Bush, provided he has the stones to use the veto to kill spending bills that don’t make sense...which is an awful lot of them.

A “dope” who runs a state with over 25,000,000 people — has created more jobs than the rest of the country combined — (30,000 just in July — 10th month of steady growth)— who is a 3rd term governor with a GOP super majority. A state businesses are racing to due to our low taxes, fair regulations and tort reform.

Other states need to clone this “dope.”

Rick Perry started as a Democrat in West Texas (essentially THE only party). He served in the Texas legislature - was known as one of the "pit bulls," conservative members who sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee and bitterly fought spending increases.

Perry changed parties in 1989, joining Phil Gramm and other conservative Texas Democrats, who now had a true ideological party with a burgeoning Texas GOP.

When Perry campaigned for Lt. Gov. [1998], he and his campaign staff were in it to win and his hard-nosed style was against the "friendly" advice and request of GWB [in re-election bid for Texas Gov] and Rove to run easy against Sharp, a popular democrat (and Aggie friend of Perry's from their A&M years together). Rove wanted to broaden Bush's base for his upcoming White House run. Perry told them where to stick their advice, because he knew the voters would vote for Bush for Gov. and then cross back over and vote for Sharp (D) for Lt. Gov, if he just walked through the motions like the Bush-Rove team asked him to do.

Perry won the seat for Lt. Gov. -- the first Republican elected to that office since Reconstruction. Now 13 years later and into his 3rd term as Texas governor, the GOP holds a super majority. So Perry has earned his conservative spurs -- fighting both parties!

[The Bushes and Rove supported Kay Bailey Hutchison's primary challenge against Gov. Perry the 2010 election too]

Tactic number one in the Dem. playbook:

Democrats are smart.
Republicans are stupid.

The dogma hasn’t changed in 100 years.

I love the titles these authors are using. When you get into the meat of the article...it is very positive for Perry. Looks like Pajamas Media is a Rick Perry supporter.
