Clock ticking on Sarah Palin entry into 2012 presidential race
Politico ^ | 08/25/2011 | Molly Ball

Even for Sarah Palin, there are deadlines.

The former Alaska governor seems to believe that most of the rules of politics don’t apply to her – that with her media appeal and her grassroots following, she could waltz into the presidential campaign at the 11th hour and make a go of it.

But if she does want to run for president, she’ll have to get on the ballot. Palin has gestured vaguely at various self-imposed deadlines — the latest being late September — but there are some drop-dead dates that she cannot escape, starting with Oct. 31.

That’s the day presidential candidates’ names have to be submitted for inclusion on the primary ballot in Florida. By the next day, candidates have to file for the South Carolina primary ballot – along with a $25,000 fee. And the deadlines for other states come fast and furious after that. It’s $1,000 by Nov. 18 in New Hampshire. On Dec. 5, thousands of signed petitions are due in Illinois.

“It isn’t inconceivable that somebody could get into the race as late as the first or second week in October and manage to get it all done,” provided they knew what they were doing, said Matt Seyfang, a Democratic lawyer who’s handled ballot-access and delegate issues for five presidential campaigns, including Bill Clinton’s 1992 effort — which didn’t get started until October 1991. But any later than that, he said, would probably be impossible.

It’s not playing the “elites game”.

Sure it is. The press sets a fake deadline and then pushes constantly that Palin is "dithering" while other candidates all jump and dance to the MSM's tune. If that's what you expect of Palin, you'll be disappointed.

Serious presidential candidates make up their minds. That shows leadership. Serious presidential candidates participate in primary debates.

The Reagan strategy of staying out of the Republican campaign until November 13 successfully neutralized potential primary threats from Jerry Ford and Jack Kemp.

Super Tuesday wasn’t until June 6 in 1980. We didn’t have the media saturation we have now and Reagan had a campaign machine in place from his prior nomination bid when he challenged Ford in 1976.

I think you Palin supporters are deluding yourselves.

I ask Palin's supporters with a wide open mind: What is she waiting for????

1. Palin has 100% name recognition and is very popular with the GOP base. She does not need to introduce herself to them

2. Another reason to delay is Money. Palin will have to run an insurgent campaign, she will not be able to compete as well with Establishment candidates. A shorter campaign neutralizes that advantage

3. the candidates have not been vetted like Palin, their support to erode over time as the media beat the snot out of them like they did Palin for 3 years.

Who am I? I’m the person that you spoke about in a defamatory way, and then spoke rudely to.
I’m one of the people that you owe an apology.
_________________________________________________________

This is surreal. I am under increasing attack and I am suppose to apologize for it? To you? I still don’t know who the heck you are or why you were pinged or why you are harrassing me. Why were you pinged in the very first place? It was to expand this attack on my ignorance. Your name was used by someone else. I asked who you were? If you think you can try your hand here at rope-a-dope to justify ganging up in a threesome against a poster, you are just not subtle enough to get that job done.

No. Reagan "dithered" too. And "Super Tuesday" wasn't a term used until 1984.

In 1980 caucuses started January 21st.

Palin has a team put together. Did you miss that?

She has not yet decided. She has said so. She has received death threats and has children. When she decides she will say so.

Your Post 113

Noticed you called in Onyz and Trisham. Do they help tattle?

You posted TWO posters names. When talking about posters you MUST ping them. It is an FR rule.

Buzz up thread and see who is doing the pushing around of posters. When one pushes back it results in bringing others in to try for a free for all. I get the picture. Who are you performing for? I never did anything to you. You are punching at air and it’s showing. Talk about punching downward, I’m nobody. You might be a real big player. I don’t know. I still don’t know who the heck you are? See ya.

The owner? Seems to me it was the reposting of his original post that lit you up. It was a fair warning. You don't like Sarah Palin. So don't snark on threads about her. Simple concept.

That’s my point.

Indecisiveness is not leadership.

A leader, if he or she truly has not made up her mind, would set a deadline for announcing, one way or another. There’s nothing to be gained by being coy.

Reagan wasn’t a leader? He announced on Nov 13, 1979 and the first caucus was Jan 21st, 1980 in Iowa. Wow.

Excuse me? YOU are the one who posted TWO poster names while I was asking you about your tattle tutorial. I simply asked who they were, wondering if they knew how like you do. Thanks for the explanation above, but you’re late.

would set a deadline for announcing, one way or another.

She did. You missed that too?

Sarah Palin: “There is still a lot of contemplation that goes on within a family, deciding whether to engage in such a life-changing venture, putting yourself forward in the name of service, in such a position as President of the United States. So, we’re still thinking about it, and the impact on family. Family comes first in my life, and I just don’t want to adversely affect the family. So, we’re still talking about it, thinking about it. And that’s what I want supporters to understand. At the same time, I want to be very fair to supporters and not keep them hanging on in perpetuity. It’s fair to them to give them an answer here, in short order, so that they can jump on board with someone else. And/or to decide for themselves what they want to do. So, still haven’t made up my mind, haven’t decided when that announcement would be yet.”

David Brody: “Is that short order by the end of September? October?

Sarah Palin: “I think that that is a fair timeline for people, because Fall time, they can start getting engaged with different campaigns, but still thinking about it, and really, really desiring to be a participant in the positive change that needs to happen in this country. Economy getting back on the right track. Jobs created for Americans, I want to be a part of that whether it be as a candidate, or as a supporter of the right candidate. I’m still in that decision making phase.”

So you aren't a Palin supporter. I'm trying to figure out what your point is. Discouraging others? Won't work.

Nothing but driving the Lame stream media crazy!
She is in control, not them. And that really is the whole point.
She will call the tune at a time and place of her choosing, not theirs!

She is brilliant!

I pinged them. You talked about them WITHOUT pinging them.

Shall I go on another thread and talk about you without pinging you?

There are rules for a reason.

I’m just remembering how Ross Perot lost momentum. I like Palin, but I know what can happen if you appear hesitant.

I think Palin has indicated in some of her communications that somewhere into Sept/Oct there are some deadlines regarding entering. That is a rememberance that I could be wrong about.

However those deadlines exist if Palin plans to run in the GOP primaries that will be starting in early 12. Now if she was to run as a 3rd party candidate then these timeframes aren’t applicable. Here are three examples of timeframes.

Oct. 31, deadline to enter the GOP primary

Nov. 1, Deadline to enter the South Carolina GOP primary

New Hampshire is just a couple of weeks later I believe.
