Clock ticking on Sarah Palin entry into 2012 presidential race
Politico ^ | 08/25/2011 | Molly Ball

Even for Sarah Palin, there are deadlines.

The former Alaska governor seems to believe that most of the rules of politics don’t apply to her – that with her media appeal and her grassroots following, she could waltz into the presidential campaign at the 11th hour and make a go of it.

But if she does want to run for president, she’ll have to get on the ballot. Palin has gestured vaguely at various self-imposed deadlines — the latest being late September — but there are some drop-dead dates that she cannot escape, starting with Oct. 31.

That’s the day presidential candidates’ names have to be submitted for inclusion on the primary ballot in Florida. By the next day, candidates have to file for the South Carolina primary ballot – along with a $25,000 fee. And the deadlines for other states come fast and furious after that. It’s $1,000 by Nov. 18 in New Hampshire. On Dec. 5, thousands of signed petitions are due in Illinois.

“It isn’t inconceivable that somebody could get into the race as late as the first or second week in October and manage to get it all done,” provided they knew what they were doing, said Matt Seyfang, a Democratic lawyer who’s handled ballot-access and delegate issues for five presidential campaigns, including Bill Clinton’s 1992 effort — which didn’t get started until October 1991. But any later than that, he said, would probably be impossible.

Palin at the Iowa State Fair August 12:

Q: When is a good time? Do you have a timeline?

Palin: I have said that that August/September timeframe is important for logistical and legal reasons to jump in there, but…

Q: So by next month?

Palin: I think that just practically speaking that has to be kind of a drop dead time. Also, in fairness to supporters, who are standing on the timeline, and this is what I have told Todd over and over again, I don't want to be seen as or perceived as stringing people along, asking supporters, 'Oh don't just jump in there on someone else's bandwagon because I may jump in, so hold off a little bit.' That is not fair to them. After another month or two goes by, they need to know who it is that they can jump behind. Now more than ever, everybody has got to get involved in this 2012 election. They need to get out there and campaign for their chosen candidates, its all the more reason to hurry up and decide.

Q: Will you know by the next time you are here in Iowa whether you will be in, over Labor Day?

Palin: I doubt it. By the next time I am here by September 3? I don't know if within the next couple of weeks I will be ready for an announcement or not.

Q: So the end of September is no longer a viable deadline?

Palin: No, he was asking about my next visit here on September 3, if I would be ready for an announcement September 3. And I said I don't know if I would be ready by September 3.

Q: So the end of September would still be your timetable?

Palin: That is still a possibility for a timetable. Yes, definitely.

I ask Palin's supporters with a wide open mind: What is she waiting for????

Forty-one percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters say there is “no chance” they would vote for Sarah Palin in a presidential race.

Polls lie and liars poll and you must be a RINO troll to post this.

She unfortunately missed her window

What window was she looking for?

found her negatives unmanagable

List them.

the candidates will squirm if they get her endorsement

She doesn't give it unless they ask - like Perry asked her because he knows when SARAH talks, everyone listens.

Sarah Palin never stated that she would announce on September 3rd.

My gut is telling me she pulls a Perot on the 3rd and ask, if you build me a 50 state ground team in a ( month ? ) and want me to run I will....

Scare the daylights out of the checkpants NE Republican Reptile GOP-ers, which is what it is ment to do....

There’s a big difference between PDS and talking policy.

Bicarbonate of soda in some water is my advice for that gut feeling. Unless you believe she wants a second Obama term.

Even more incentive to look forward to that day, because PDS is a compulsive behavior, and they will not be able to resist dipping their toes in that electrified pool just.one.more.time ...

The media does not make up her mind. I have faith she is running and zero faith in the lemmings here (especially the rash of 2010 signups here) wringing their hands because she won't act like they want her to act.

All of the other candidates are re-hashing the tired old campaign style. If she runs and does poorly, then America has signaled its just too damn stupid for anything else and I bid this country the best of luck while I go Galt eleswhere on the globe as there is NO WAY I am voting for Romney and I am tired of Texas Governer's with their over the top "compassion" for those speaking de espanol.

Is there a troll ID guide somewhere? Is it readily accessible with clearly defined identification marks? How DO you decide who to go after?

Reagan and Palin

Both “Happy Warriors”.

Both speak right to the voters.

And it drives liberals and RINOs crazy.

I was thinking the same - she goes 3rd party. Thumb in the eye to the GOP establishment and the only way to RESTORE America.

And since she is truly of We The People mindset, I think your if you build me a 50 state ground team in a ( month ? ) and want me to run I will.... fits PERFECTLY!
