Earling apologized. “We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read,” he said.

Stick with the classics ... they not only encourage reading but also teach solid values.

This is a sick outrage!!! I’d love to homeschool to avoid this rubbish but I am not able to do that. I guess I’ll have to stock up on plenty of Pepcid & beta blockers and get ready for a fight once my kid starts school. Ugh.

It is high time parents become involved in what their kids are exposed to in government schools. In fact it was time 40 years ago!

...the committee “didn’t feel it was inappropriate based on the language that’s used, common language used on the street.”

Nothing like reinforcing the gutter!

Except they’re banning many of the “classics”, too.

“Huck Finn” has been banned in a lot of districts in favor of the inferior “To Kill a Mockingbird”.

The books, school officials say, were included on the list by a group of teachers, librarians, and administrators, and approved by the board of education.

Support school choice. Get this passed, and only the democrat kids will be indoctrinated into this type of behavior.
Help the other kids to escape. Some parents can't afford to save their kids from being taught this type of left wing bile. They need our help.

If you can’t take two or three hours a day to homeschool your child, taken you are a real loser. If you are a paraplegic, or blind or mentally disabled, forgive me. There is always Saturday and Sunday, too, you know.

Maybe they should try some science fiction.

So they purged the titles from the summer reading list...after summer is over? Damage is already done, sue and fire those responsible.

Not to comment on the contents of the article - where does one even start? - people seem to scramble to get books for kids to read, when the classics are not only good for the reasons you mentioned, but they are necessary, for pretty much the same reasons.

That said, it is my experience that kids, when introduced to the characters in the original classics (not the rewritten versions), actually tend to enjoy the stories.

Kids miss out on so many character studies when they skip the classics, which could be the goal.

Of course, the school in question and the district has some social agenda and are beyond help. They don’t even see it.

No wonder our morals are in the tank. I don't care if these books are about homo-or heterosexuals. Books that contain depictions of a 31-year-old woman raping a 13-year-old girl, and a story about addiction, describing an orgy scene as well as the details of drug use just are not appropriate reading for any school aged child...K thru 12.
The “adults” who approved these should be made to experience the hell that is described in the stories. Maybe if they were raped and addicted beyond control they would not find it so appropriate to suggest these books to impressionable teens who might think these lifestyles are to be emulated.

What do they expect? They don’t speak out when the gay agenda is pushed through legislature, TV, and everywhere else. Everyone’s afraid to be called an intolerant bigot. Too cowardly to speak out. So this is where we are.

Can’t imagine what authority is going to oversee moral development and prosecute on those grounds. It probably should happen that way, but. . .

Parents are the primary educators of their children, whether we want to believe it or not.

Until parents take back control this will continue.

“Norwegian Wood,” a novel by Haruki Murakami, includes a graphic depiction of a 31-year-old woman raping a 13-year-old girl”

We come a long way from “Heather has two mommies.”

But...but....the homos said all they wanted was tolerance. Just tolerance. Nothing more. They just wanted to live in peace behind their own closed doors.

Isn't it time America changed it's mind about "tolerance"? Maybe the mental institutions really were a good idea.

Drove past a school this morning and saw a fire drill in process. The teachers (all of the adults, anyway) were wearing faded blue jeans and polo or t-shirts.

I wonder how kids can naturally respect that.

BTW - Pedophiles are starting to demand the same rights as homosexuals. They're going the same route to get it. This book is designed to set the stage for pedophile "tolerance", and then we all know what comes next.
This has nothing to do with learning how to read. It has everything to do with getting kids to accept it. The left is planting the seed. They're the generation that will be voting on Pedophilia tolerance.
