SAN ANTONIO -- A wildfire fire is spreading in the Stone Oak area on the North Side of San Antonio.
The fire is believed to have started around 1:30 p.m. near Stone Oak Parkway and Evans Road.
The fire department is organizing and still unable to speak to the media at the moment.
There are reportedly several fire burning in the area. Winds, which are now at 21 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 35, are making it more difficult for firefighters to put out the flames.
Three minor injuries have been reported.
Evacuations:
At least 5,000 people have been evacuated. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for the following locations:
•20,600 block of Stone Oak Parkway •Abbey Apartments •Crown Ridge Estates Apartments Road Closures:
Parts of Stone Oak Parkway and Canyon Gulf Road have been closed. Those on the roadways in the area should exercise caution since visibility is low because of thick smoke.
Power Outages:
Witnesses also tell News 4 WOAI that the fire is causing transformers to blow. According to the CPS Energy outage map, 2,000 people are currently without power.

URGENT NEED for horse transport for evacuation in Bastrop County, TX. Barns that were used to house evacuees are now in the fire’s path. Rt 304 still open both ways. Anyone in the area who can help, please call Beth at 512-467-4893 or Rachel at 512-581-2940. There at least 43 horses in immediate need at their rescue, surely there will be more.
Listening to their radio traffic, it sounds like they have a good handle on it.

Lots of ranchers around there..I am sure they will get something pulled together to get the horses out.
My comment was in reference was to the SA fire, not the Bastrop fire, which is east of Austin.
There's a 0% chance of rain in the 10 day forecast. Every day there's more and more fires all over Texas. North of San Antonio, the hwy between Austin and east to Bastrop is closed due to fires. With 350 homes in Bastrop burned, they've cancelled school. Four school districts west of Austin are closed due to fires. Winds are gusting to 45 mph, so combine that with the drought Texas is one big tinderbox. Up and down I-35 from San Antonio to Tyler (up by the NE corner of Texas) there are fires.
Plus it’s Labor Day, which means there’s going to be lots of barbeques going on tonight...
Yes, it appears to be contained to Stone Oak park, and it’s petering out...
I wonder what the following ten days are going to bring. That is what should be looked at too. I think it is a shame that the state has not had any rain this Summer. I am glad that Perry finally took this seriously and will be returning. Not necessarily his fault as he probably didn’t realize how bad it actually was.
Update - 476 homes burned in Bastrop fire. And more school closings just announced.
Yes, idiots will have their grills going. Smelled bbq smoke here last night and silently cursed whomever it was. People were whining back on July 4th because so many towns had banned fireworks and outdoor fires. Reality check. During the Labor Day Marathon last night, the local show kept explaining that no firefighters (the largest donors) would be attending because they needed every man for the fires.
