A 15-YEAR-OLD thug who tried to rob a Temple University student early yesterday got an unexpected surprise when the college kid pulled out a piece of his own, in self-defense.
The young gunman and two teenage sidekicks came upon Robert Eells, 21, and a friend just before 2 a.m. on 12th Street near Dauphin. He tried to rob Eells and opened fire, at which point Eells shot back, police said.
Multiple shots were fired, and Eells was struck in the stomach and the robber in the chest and leg. Both were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they were treated and listed in stable condition yesterday, police said.
The would-be robber, whom police did not identify because of his age, will be charged, police said. Officers last night were looking for his two accomplices.
Police said that Eells, a sophomore from Chalfont, had a permit to carry a weapon. Temple officials confirmed his identity last night.
The shooting happened several blocks off campus. Eells did not live in campus housing. The friend with him during the incident is not a Temple student.
Temple spokesman Ray Betzner said that Temple police were cooperating with the Philadelphia police investigation into the shooting. He also stressed that Temple had increased security efforts to keep the campus and the surrounding area safe.
"Temple's campus has very strong safety procedures, and we have increased patrols on the outskirts of campus through the city of Philadelphia's Police Department," Betzner said.
He declined to comment on Eells' decision to carry a weapon, but said that students are not allowed to have firearms on campus.
Classes started at Temple on Aug. 29.
But but but everyone knows collage students are unarmed! He cheated!
It would be even nicer to know that there were no negative legal reprocussions to Mr Eells, and also nice to know that the "juvenile" scumbag died of hs wounds (I know that isn't likely at this point, but it would save the the public the depredations of a career criminal in the future)

Marktwain, you have a habit of these making firearms related postings in the morning - keep up it up as I enjoy them.

The judge should ground his butt for two weeks, take away his Plasma TV, iPod, cell phone and computer. That'll teach him, and good!
Wonder if the kid will be expelled from Temple. He would be if he were a UPenn student!
I wonder how TPTB would react to a perp drilled through the right eyesocket as opposed to a couple of inconsequential rounds in the center mass?
Temple is an absolute black hell-hole. No one in their right mind would attend this POS. I used to take my mother down to Temple for treatment. Slums surround it, out-of-work-blacks everywhere contemplating their next holdup or break-in. 2 am? This guy must be nuts walking around Temple at that hour. It’s an automatic death sentence. I won’t go to Philly any more for anything. My financial advisor invited me to a wine tasting and dinner at the Pyramid Club. I told him no thanks. I want to live to spend my money not die on some filthy Philadelphia street at the hands of some black flash mob or black mutants!
Do not blow in whistle if you are coughing up blood.
Looking at the facts reported it seems to me that Temple University has been looking at key aspects of the defensive use of a firearm with a view toward dismissing their student. Look at what has been established: 1. The shooting took place off-campus. 2. The Temple student didn’t live on campus. 3. His friend & co-victim was not a Temple Student.
OTOH, we know nothing about the perp because he’s ‘underage’.
If any retaliation is taken against him by Temple I'd sue them like they've never been sued before.
Temple is deep within an area that traditionally votes Democrat, with a 95%-102% turnout. The residents are enthusiastic and patriotic.

“just before 2 a.m.”
Two o’clock in the morning. Nothing good is happening on the streets at that time of night.
What’s the UPenn policy? Mandatory victim status at all
times and places?
Intellectually I agree. I keep having this urge to visit
the Liberty Bell park, but I’m not going alone.

I would, too. And, since they are a “state-related” university, I’d sue them under federal civil rights statutes for depriving him of his 2A, equal protection, and property rights under color of state law (which means that they’d have to pay his attorney’s fees if they lose).
Castle Doctrine took effect in PA on August 27th.
