Former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates: Israel an ungrateful ally

Former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates blasted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying that his policies were ungrateful towards the US and were isolating Israel on a global level.

Gates’ harsh words were said during a meeting of the National Security Council Principals Committee, Bloomberg’s Jeffrey Goldber reported Tuesday.

Gates believes Netanyahu’s government has offered the Obama administration “nothing in return” for its generous security aid, which includes access to top-quality weapons, assistance in developing missile-defense systems and high-level intelligence sharing.

The former defense secretary said that not only is Netanyahu ungrateful, but his polices were “endangering his country by refusing to grapple with Israel’s growing isolation and with the demographic challenges it faces if it keeps control of the West Bank.”

Bloomberg added that Gates’s analysis met with no resistance from other committee members.

Fifty-plus years of islamist propaganda is apparently very close to achieving its objective...

“Gates believes Netanyahu’s government has offered the Obama administration “nothing in return” for its generous security aid,”

Like Pakistan has. LOL

Gates is a fool trying to make points with his new masters.

I’m to the point that maybe Israel should just strike out on their own and make what alliances they can instead of depending on the political elite here.

We’ll be far more than sorry to lose Israel as an ally in that miserable part of the world. The only democracy there and we dump on them.

What kind of gratitude is he looking for, exactly?

An honorable suicide?

Grateful to Gates and the O admin means you are only grateful if you succumb to their demands.

You can’t say, thank you for the help. Tain’t enough. You must give them what they want to be considered grateful.

Am I the only conservative growing weary of our American youth dying, our taxes expended, and our nation going further into debt to unilaterally help and defend many other nations that have never spent a single dime or lost one serviceman in defense of the USA?

There are dozens of countries in this category and it is always the now broke Uncle Sam that is still on the giving end. You know what they call people who go broke giving and never getting - saps?

Until these other nations (and I include Israel and many more) that are much better off per capita fiscally than the USA start paying and reimbursing us, I’m in favor of shutting off the spigot of aid and defense and replenishing our own coffers for a change.

“Grateful allies” don’t conduct espionage (as Israel does) on their “friends.”

Any man, whether appointed by W in some capacity or not, and held on with the approval of the Obama administration is a traitor to this country as far as I am concerned.

DITTO!!! AND TO SEE HIM BETRAYING ISRAEL LIKE THIS - WELL IT PROVES HE'S NOT A CHRISTIAN EITHER!

Ummm...all countries conduct espionage on all other countries. We don’t depend on press releases to determine what the Brits are up to...and Israel would be STUPID to trust anyone with their survival.

You're backing up my case. You provide all the more reason to stop this nonsensical talk about Israel being a "grateful" and "loyal" friend. There is nothing "special" about our relationship in that regard. Like all other countries, it would sell us down the river in a second, if it thought it would provide any benefit.

FU Bobby boy. Israel has a right to exist and have a right to not be thrown under the bus by the elite.

No surprise. All the bushies are revealing their deep bias against Jews. Baker, Scrowcroft, Powell, Rice, Gates, Bush Sr, G.W... As the news continues to trickle out of their shady back door dealings with Israel over the past 20 years, it is no wonder that the G-d of Israel is allowing this nation to receive the curses that it so richly deserves... Obama has only accelerated the decline (Gen 12:3).

If Robert Gates only knew: being Israel's semi-ally over the past 60 years has been the single greatest reason for America's world position. We should be thanking Israel for permitting us to support them.

I'd rather be in Somalia than Libya. I'd rather be in Darfur than Egypt. I'd rather be in Cuba than Germany. I'd rather guard the border with Mexico than the South Korean border with North Korea.
