While Perry's reaction was odd (perhaps justifiably so), I found the statement by Gretchen Carlson (a Fox & Friends anchor) even more strange, as if she was carrying water for Perry.

Much like MSNBC promoting their guy, it sure appears most of Fox News has taken to promoting their own candidate.

I don’t know why anyone would be silent (silence is consent) after calls for violence like that.

Perry is picking his battles and controlling his interaction with the media.

Play it cool and careful, Rick. Don't let the media (including Fox) get you tangled issues you don't control.

I guess he can only deal with one issue at a time?

He did not discuss politics or the campaign on any interview this AM. Stayed on point, being fires.

I’m fairly neutral on Perry, but in the interest of accuracy, he did say:

Kilmeade: Governor, i know you’re focused on the wildfires, but when somebody says something like that, do you say that’s appropriate, inappropriate, par for the course? What’s your reaction?

Perry: Well, you wouldn’t be bleeping if it was appropriate. The bottom line is the people I’m more interested in are out here on these fire lines...

If the pigs are shooting at you from the gutter then what.

Besides the veiled violent rhetoric behind “taking out” the Tea Party (your army’s about to mutiny on you, Hoffa, they are largely disgusted with the big O) there’s also the presumptuousness about the union system “giving America back to America.” Like he was going to wrap it up in nice paper and a bow and stick it under America’s Christmas tree. We beg to differ, we prefer not to be caged in pretty gift boxes with the union label plastered all over.

I said yesterday, we should not dignify that fool Hoffa, Jr. with any comment!!! Do your own “bitching & get even action at the ballot box next November, 2012!!” It is Hoffa, Jr,, Obama, Shultz, Biden, Waters, etc. that has the problem. Just kindly take note of how many Democrats are laying low, keeping their yaps shut. They all want to broom Obama and his ilk, for they all know the massive defeat that is coming!!!

Why was his reaction odd? Perry is very disciplined when it comes to staying on message. Right now his message is about the fires in Texas and he is fully engaged in the problems his state is facing. He did offer that Hoffa's statement couldn't be appropriate because Fox had to bleep it out.

There will be a time and place for responding to Hoffa. That time isn't now. Discipline and staying on message..... he is good at those things and that bodes well for his campaign and for anyone who wants to evict the Marxist in chief next year.

That was a little unfocussed of Perry.

Its OK to formally condemn Hoffa's crazy threats, doesn't mean you hate unionized firefighters.

Still, I'm willing to give him a pass as it's a TV spot. People never do a perfect job on TV and - after all - Texas is on fire. Let's see if he gives Hoffa a drubbing later.

It is clear that Perry had agreed to talk about the TX fires and nothing else. F & F had agreed to this beforehand. Carlson seemed to think Kilmeade’s question was inappropriate.

Obama is removing the mask he wore in 2008.

Since he won't attract the same kind of idiot voters (or in the same numbers) this time around, my guess he is going to try to steal this election with threats of union and racial violence, voter intimidation, legal manuevering (by the DOJ), and any thing else right up to and including an outright coup.

This is his last shot and he will try to make good on it...no holes barred.
