FULL TITLE: Obese benefit fraudster who couldn't squeeze into courtroom facing jail after admitting £35,000 fiddle
A dole cheat was so fat after living off state handouts she couldn't fit into a courtroom to stand trial for swindling nearly £35,000 in benefits.
Clinically Obese Beverley Douglas, 43, claimed she could not get into the dock of Court One at Inner London Crown Court to face 13 fraud charges.
Instead she sat outside while Judge Roger Chapple agreed to adjourn the hearing so Douglas could appear in one of the court's more modern rooms with wider doors.

Earlier, Ms Penny said as part of her mitigation she would be presenting a hospital report on behalf of the fraudster.
She said: 'Ms Douglas is an extremely unwell woman.'
In May, Douglas told officials she could not climb the stairs to the narrow secure doorway leading to the dock of the oak-panelled courtroom, thought to have been built in the Edwardian era.
Douglas, of Bensham Lane, Thornton Heath, south London, is accused of claiming a total of £34,790.22 of state handouts while working as a bus driver and a CCTV officer.
She admitted nine counts of making a false representation and two of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances between March 15, 2004 and February 26, 2009.
