PEORIA — Ryder has canceled all truck rentals for the coming week due to credible but unconfirmed threats of terrorist attacks in the wake of the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
A customer who did not want to be identified told the Journal Star that she had been informed by Ryder of the cancellation by phone call Friday. A Ryder representative told the Journal Star all local rentals for the weekend had been canceled, though that person declined to elaborate on the reason.
Further questions were referred to the head of rentals for the local arm of the company. That person did not immediately return a request for an interview.
The customer was told by a Ryder representative in Peoria that the president of the company had decided to stop all truck rentals this week in the wake of the threats of terrorist attacks on the East Coast.
U.S. officials said Thursday they were investigating a credible but unconfirmed threat of a car bomb that may be used to target bridges or tunnels in New York City or Washington, D.C.
Neither U-Haul or Budget Truck Rental have any plans at this time to discontinue rentals in the area over the weekend, according to Peoria-area representatives reached by phone Friday afternoon.

This has nothing to do with "pseudo-patriotism. It has to do with a credible terrorist threat.

The truck rental industry exists because it provides economic value. If a credible terrorist threat
is an excuse to shut it down, then we suffer an economic loss, and the Muzzies win without actually having to attack. All they need to do is commit the occasional atrocity often enough to preserve the autoimmune response in their target. Just basic terrorism 101, that's all.
This is why you are not the CEO of Ryder. Ryder is protecting it's name. They don't need another Ryder Truck blowing up killing Americans. They have been advised by the DHS that there is a credible threat and apparently it involves a rental truck and Ryder has been the choice of terrorists. And why? Because they are the most reliable rental truck you can get.

actually it is more likely they just don't want the bad publicity and rather the terrorists do the dirty deed using U-haul or someone else. They went through the OK City bombing deal and they don't want no mo'.
Nope it doesn't go far enough. They might rent an SUV or mini van. So we need to cancel ALL rentals. But then they might borrow or steal a private vehicle. The most doggone good idea would be to close all roads. But wait, maybe they already planted the device and just need to pass by the area and set it off. A better doggone good idea would be to call for a nationwide curfew and lock everyone in their homes until Sept 12. But wait, maybe they will still want to do it the day after, or a month from now.....
Perhaps there are Ryder trucks that may have already been rented by possible terrorists and have already gone missing.
If the rest of the fleet is grounded then it makes it easier for law enforcement to locate the missing trucks and to stop every Ryder rental.
There may be more to the story than we are told.
