Dream Act: California Embraces Anti-Arizona Role on Illegal Immigration
ABC News ^ | Sept. 3, 2011, LOS ANGELES | By Daniel B. Wood, Staff Writer

With the Obama administration and Congress stalled on immigration reform, California has joined the growing parade of states acting on their own to pressure Washington into action.

The Democrat-controlled state Senate on Wednesday night passed its version of the Dream Act – a bill that would allow illegal immigrants who attended state high schools for three or more years to apply for state-funded college financial aid. The federal version of the bill, which was most recently defeated in December, allows a path to citizenship for illegal-immigrant students and members of the military who were brought to the US as children.

The California Senate vote is a sign that the immigration debate at state level is being driven as much by those sympathetic to illegal immigration as those determined to curtail it, says Catherine Wilson, an immigration analyst at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

The states cracking down on immigration have gotten more press attention and skewed the public perception of what is really happening, she says. Following the passage of Arizona's SB 1070 – which requires police to ask for identification from anyone they suspect of being undocumented – four other states enacted copycat legislation: Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina, and Alabama. Utah opted for a hybrid of both tightened law enforcement as well as a temporary guest worker program. All these laws are being challenged in court.

If kicking them out is “the government’s job” and it’s “unconstitutional” for the states to do anything, wouldn’t this half assed “DREAM ACT” also be “unconstitutional”?

Yup, but who said it had to be logical? It's all based on feeeeeeeellllliiiiinnnngs.

The crackermeal-for-brains individuals promoting the "DREAM Act" (within and without the Legislature) fancy themselves "non-racist" for doing so. See, it's all about race, not about citizenship. They're rendering citizenship completely meaningless. It makes my blood boil.

I agree. Also, the politicians pimping this so called DREAM Act could really care less about the illegals who will benefit from it. They are only looking for more voters. They are going to need them in 2012 to pull Barry’s chestnuts out of the fire.

DREAM Act in California?

What are the chances of the Perrydactyls chiming in on this thread to tell us how giving instate tuition to ILLEGAL aliens is the 'right thing to do' or that it 'isn't a big deal'?

I forwarded an earlier article re: subsidized tuition and other benefits for illegals to several Facebook contacts in CA, and was stunned at how many out there aren`t even aware of this. The local propaganda outlets must be downplaying it. I`m surprised they`re not trumpeting its passage; it`s not CA will ever be in play electorally. The dems have that state firmly and permanently locked down.

Seems not if you are a former democrat and a large rino from Texas. But you are correct, seems there is some that think states rights is nothing more than a political issue. I mean it is ok to talk about social security, but talking about the money getting spent on illegals is a federal issue, since the state citizens never paid into the system and the state government does not represent them. I guess that is the answer.

AS FREEPER GRAMPADAVE POSTED: We have seen an interesting trend when some teachers/school administrators and principals, we know, retire in Cali. They are still democrats, but have become very outspoken about the illegals.

Over the past 3 decades, they have seen the damage the illegal spawn have done to their schools from diverting money for good students to teaching the illegals how to speak/read English and to do basic math.

Then, the illegal gang violence and bullying in schools gets worse each day. The sad thing is most will continue to vote for the rats, who enable and reward the illegals.

RAZA STUDIES COMING TO A SCHOOL NEAR YOU
Anti-Americanism Disguised as Ethnic Studies in Tucson Schools

The Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) is in a contentious fight with the state of Arizona over its controversial Mexican-American Studies program. A state law went into effect in Arizona on January 1, 2011, banning the teaching of ethnic studies in K-12 schools. It was prompted by an investigation into TUSD’s ethnic studies curriculum by Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne when he was State Superintendent of Schools.

The program is known as “raza studies,” which means race studies, championed by organizations like the far left organization National Council of La Raza. The course does not simply teach Latino youth about their heritage, it goes well beyond that. The textbooks teach Latino youth that they are mistreated by America, training them to become radical anti-American activists. Textbooks include “The Pedagogy of the Oppressed” and “Occupied America.” Another text "gloats over the difficulties our country is having at enforcing its immigration laws." Benjamin Franklin is vilified as a racist. White people are referred to as “gringos” and “oppressors” of Latino people. “Privilege” is described as related to a person’s ethnicity.

At a TUSD school board meeting on May 10, one upset mother read excerpts from the textbook “An Epic Poem,” including, My land is lost and stolen, My culture has been raped….we have to destroy capitalism…overthrow a government that has committed abuses….to the bloodsuckers, the parasites, the vampires who are the capitalists of the world: The schools are tools of the power structure that blind and sentence our youth to a life of confusion, and hypocrisy, one that preaches assimilation and practices institutional racism." --SNIP--

The racist/Marxist SOB’s tried to hide their anti-American "Raza Studies"
got EXPOSED on local radio ......now they're screaming bloody murder
over being outed.

These Third Worlders are a horrific blot on the American landscape.
ALL of them should be deported since they are here under false pretenses.

Just here for a "better life."

evidences a distinct lack of self esteem. They actually think Americans are "frail

Mexicans made once before.

The only ones hijacking this California thread are YOU lot.

I've contacted Moonbeam's office in opposition to AB 131. It's insanity a state with 12% unemployment and legendary chronic budget issues would use tax dollars to give college degrees to students who won't be able to legally work in the U.S. afterward.

Death wish.

Mexifornia was already headed toward failed state status. This will only help speed up its achievement of that.
