“Palin even went as far as to lend her voice to the charge leveled by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) during the debate against Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R): That he allowed a law to go though requiring HPV vaccinations for adolescent girls because of a $5,000 campaign donation and his relationship with his former chief of staff, who went on to lobby for a pharmaceutical company.

Do you think that when Texas allows oil companies, who contributed much more than the .00017% of Perry campaign donations that Merck gave, to drill in Texas that it means he is on the take with them also? Do you think “real” conservative candidates should just take no contributions because every donation has a possible conflict of interest attached to it, no matter how inconsequential that donation may be? How many elections do you suppose conservatives would win with zero dollars from any business? I think people are overlooking the possibility that perhaps he is telling the truth and he thought it was the right thing to do, as he thinks it is right to let oil companies drill in Texas regardless of who contributes to his campaign. I think it is important to note that when his constituents expressed their extreme displeasure with his decision, he dropped it. That incident showed me that he pays attention to what his constituents want. On the other hand our current president and the ‘Rats in DC don’t care a hoot what we think. Just look at all the garbage that Obama and the ‘Rats in DC shoved down our throats even when it was very clear that a majority of the voters opposed them on issues like bailouts and Obamacare. I like politicians who listen to the people that elected them and actually bend to their will at times.

Can Governor Perry give permission for oil companies to drill? I do know that windmill farms have been mandated to catch the wind for energy in Texas. But I really am not sure that any state could allow drilling without approval from EPA or some other federal agency.

What I am trying to discern by any and all of the candidates is do they know who government is. Does the candidate understand who they work for, and do not view US as working for them.

I have NO doubt that Governor Perry believed he was doing the right thing by issuing that executive order. But I also think it was not politically astute the way he did it. So good on him admitting he was wrong. BUT has he learned his lesson and will not repeat a good idea because he thinks he is 'right'. I do not know that answer.

You only saw what you wanted to see. She was not bitter, and not down, she was upbeat, feisty, and in in good spirits. She looked different because her hair was short and not piled up on her head.

She is not taking any sh!! from backstabbing liars. She gave compliments to people that deserved them, and Newt was very excited and complimentary about her Iowa speech.

The other poster thought her calmer presentation was possibly bitter or angry. I just noted she seemed down, not bitter or angry necessarily, just not vibrant like she usually is. I also wondered if she was trying to act more presidential. I just couldn’t tell other than she just was not as spirited as usual.

Do you not think she can act any way other than silly and goofy?

Spiro Agnew was a Rockefeller Republican who ended up as Richard Nixon’s VP and reader of speeches written by Pat Buchanan ripping the mainstream media for being too liberal and negative.

Hubert Humphrey was a great liberal activist who ended up being Lyndon Johnson’s lap dog as VP.

When Sarah Palin signed on as McCain’s VP candidate she signed on to be his handmaiden so there was no way she could have questioned TARP under those circumstances.

Ah, the Perry supporters. Spending so much time dissing Sarah and at the same time crying because she hasn’t declared yet. The smell of fear is strong here. Sarah appears, Perry disappears. It’s going to be that simple. Keep looking over your shoulders, Mama Grizz is coming.

It was wrong to mandate Guardasil in the first place since cervical cancer (HPV) is caused by frequent sexual activity.

Mandating it for all 12-year old girls is like saying all 12-year old girls are going to become sluts, so they better get some protection.

Also, the lobbyist from Merck as a Perry aide and the campaign contribution from Merck laundered through a group called “Women In Politics” gives the clear appearance of Perry being bought.

I think the governor could exert some influence over any business that happens in our state. I know that Texas had some exemptions from the EPA and was pretty much running their own show for 10 years or so and Obama was trying to rescind them earlier this year. I have no clue why Perry signed the EO. I don’t know if he will be able to anticipate everything that people want but as long as he is willing to listen and do what the people who elected him want him to do, that is what matters to me. I like Perry a lot. I met him in Baghadad and he impressed me. I like Palin a lot too, but I have never met her. I would not be unhappy with either of them as President. I just think it is ludicrous when people throw around a $5K donation as the reason he issued an EO.

There are other ways of paying politicians besides campaign cash. He lives extremely well in West Austin on his $150,000 paycheck.

If Palin thinks she would make a better president than this group, she should make a decision to run. Instead she is just happy taking pot shots at the front runners.

Whoa! New version of the first amendment. If you're not running for president you can't criticize anyone who is. Most pundits of every stripe as well as the commenters on their blogs will need to shut up now. I guess we'll all get more sleep, though.

Thanks for the info.

I just found this too which provides a reason why Sarah Palin dismissed Beverly Wooly in 2009.

It appears it came down to Beverly Wooly’s difficulty with accepting Sarah Palin’s desire for parental notification and permission before a girl under 17 could get an abortion and then Sarah’s later compromise that she would accept legislation requiring girls under 17 to send a notification only to their parents (not get permission but notify only) before they can get an abortion. Wooly felt parental involvement could cause late term abortions while Sarah Palin at least wanted to require notification to a girl’s parents before a girl under 17 years of age could abort.

From: http://www.adn.com/2009/07/02/852044/health-director-says-she-was-forced.html

Dated July 2, 2009

Excerpts:

One of the state’s top public health officials says she was forced out of office because Gov. Sarah Palin felt she wasn’t in step on social issues.

The key source of tension was legislation that would have required girls under age 17 to get parental consent for an abortion, Wooley said Thursday. The bill, which Palin actively supported, passed the state House but stalled in the Senate.

Wooley said she made it clear to the administration beforehand that she was prepared to articulate the governor’s position: “That the governor supported the full parental consent and notification but that she would compromise.”

The compromise, agreed to by the House sponsor, state Rep. John Coghill, R-North Pole, would require girls to notify their parents before an abortion, but not get permission.

Wooley said she also intended to answer questions from legislators and said she would rely on data, not anyone’s personal beliefs. Whether she personally agreed with the governor is beside the point, Wooley said.

Palin declined to comment Thursday, calling the situation a personnel matter within the Department of Health and Social Services. Bill Hogan, health commissioner, also declined comment, based on advice from the Department of Law.

However, Hogan did talk to the Alaska Budget Report, a capital newsletter. In a story in the June 21 edition, Hogan described Wooley as having difficulty articulating the governor’s position on the abortion measure, as well as teen pregnancy prevention.

“She felt she just couldn’t get up there (in legislative committees) and articulate the governor’s position. ... She asked, ‘Suppose the data or the scientific information says something different — can I say that?’ I said, ‘Yes, but when it comes to saying the governor’s position, you need to say that.’ It just became more and more apparent that she could not get up there and do it.”

Hogan asked Wooley to resign on June 1, saying she wasn’t aligned with the governor on policy questions and also that the department was trying to operate more efficiently by combining her job with Butler’s. He told her it wasn’t performance-based, she said. She refused to resign and was dismissed.

Wooley said her office did get direct criticism from the governor’s office regarding the wording of a press release on teen pregnancy. The governor didn’t like a quote from one of Wooley’s staff so the quote was removed.

Wooley said she never had a policy discussion with Palin on any health topic, and they never met one-on-one.

The way she is loved by the progressive blogs in Alaska, I would say Wooley is a LIBERAL bureaucrat that met her demise, and not a moment too soon.

All you Perry haters can just believe what you want and construe all the “clear appearances” into any conspiracy you like - personally I just don’t give a damn anymore.

Dems investigated this getting 750 emails from Perry. They were disappointed to find nothing.

But believe what you want - I really don’t care.

With all due respect to many on this thread,

It seems that too many put their blind trust in the FDA and CDC with regards to Gardisil, just to protect their candidate. It is a little hypocritical since this same thought process is critical to other government agencies when it fits their argument.

The fact is, Gardisil is not a good vaccine. Many of the initial negative findings were covered up by Merck. It causes higher rates of miscarriage and premature abortion. It seems to reactivate the HPV virus in those where the virus is actually dormant leading to lesions and increased chance of cancer and fertility problems later in life, and many other reactions. This information is out there for anyone who dares to challenge the government accounting of reactions to this vaccine. Not to mention, the adjucvants that accompanies the antibodies are potent toxins that disrupt the immune system, brain, nervous system and endocrine system.

During our lifetime we get cancer approximately six times without even knowing it, because, for most of us, our bodies deal with it. Science needs to investigate why we do not get cancer, instead of why we do. It is there, where the solution lies.

It is the toxic load that is placed upon the human body that causes disease and prolonged illness. Why then, mandate to our young, the injection of more toxins, to prevent disease? If you want to mandate something worth while, just mandate good hygiene, sanitation, and removal of toxins in packaged food and on perishable food, in the soil and the seeds. Basically, mandate personal responsibility and self respect. Would we be less free, then?

A mandate of any kind, especially paid for by others without their consent, is not proper for a conservative to propose, let alone be okay with it, just to justify a favorite candidate or position. If you really look at all the hard data, many vaccines cause more pain and suffering along with financial cost to our economy, then they do prevent illness better than our own bodies.

Our children deserve better. Huge Monetary transactions and political positioning should be condemned when it used to manipulate society into fear and blind allegiance. We all, in the end, become less free. Hey, maybe it is okay after all, because in the end, it helps to control the worlds population.

I don’t want to get angry, but the facts are what’s on the table and they include Perry’s business tax increase of ten percent back in 2007.

This happened after his 2006 re-election campaign complete with pro-business anti-tax conservative rhetoric.

Yes, it sounded that way. Wooley did not want parental permission or even notification before a minor girl could get an abortion. Sarah wanted notification and parental permission but then settled with the liberal Senate and went with the compromise requiring at least notification to parents before a minor girl could get an abortion. I’m surprised Sarah would be accepting of ANY abortion for minor girls, but she must have been dealing with a bunch of progressive loonies up there and did what she felt she had to do to, getting the best results she felt she could.

“If Palin thinks she would make a better president than this group, she should make a decision to run.......Instead she is just happy taking pot shots at the front runners........I have less and less respect for her as each day goes by...... Either announce and join the fray or shut up..... She’s becoming annoying.”......

You sit around and wait for any Palin thread to post so you can rip into her....That’s annoying too....
