Might consider reading Home Invasion by J.A. Johnstone. She's William Johnstone's niece and a great author herself.
The book is about a gun-controlling left winger occupying the white house. Two years ago I would have considered the events described in the book to be extremist fiction with no chance of ever really happening. Now I'm nowhere near so sure.
