Why Rick Perry is the likely GOP nominee
Hot Air (Green Room) ^ | Sept 15, 2011 | Karl

After Monday’s debate in Florida, most people expected Rick Perry’s rapid rise to the top of the polls for Republican presidential candidates to slow or halt, having taken a beating over the Gardasil mandate and immigration. His attack on Social Security was supposed to scare off seniors. However, as RealClearPolitics reported last night, a new poll by Insider Advantage shows Perry grabbing a nine-point lead in the Sunshine State in a survey taken the next day…

(snip)

In the last 40 years, conservative dominance has been the way of the world in Republican presidential politics. The party has nominated some relatively moderate candidates, like Nixon, George Bush, and Bob Dole, but it was only after they had convinced enough Republican voters that they were sufficiently conservative.

In other words, a candidate aligned with the Northeastern, moderate wing of the party has not won a nomination since 1960, and there is no reason to expect that to change, barring some kind of once-in-a-century realignment of the two political parties. Northeastern Republicans are now junior partners in the party coalition. They cannot deliver their own states anymore, as the Democrats dominate them all except New Hampshire and Pennsylvania; meanwhile, conservatives in the Midwest, South, and West can deliver their states, and so they now basically run the show.

Which brings us to Mitt Romney, whose basic political problem is that he comes from the Northeastern wing of the party…

Dude I told you this yesterday....it’s obvious you Perry people do not read...or research.

Given that you are only basing your trash on what you might of heard was in the book of a often proved slimeball...u post your thoughts as if they would have some sort of impact on me or are somehow oozing with insightful knowledge.

They are neither....perhaps the time you spend posting your crap you would actually read up on the subject that you are about to make a fool of yourself on when u do....it could only help!~

You PerryBOTs and RomneyBOTs certainly are vicious racists.

Did Rove train you all? or was there some training from
Gore and the DNC, too?

I wouldn’t click on that link, but what I don’t get is why you seem to think he’s my candidate.

All I did was have the impression upon seeing the picture that he was looking pretty old, then thought of the possibility TIME was subtly starting that meme, because if he does win the nomination, he will be running against someone much younger, and with today’s youth culture and demographics, that could work against Perry in the general election like it did against McCain.

I would be interested in your opinion on that.

Believe me, I like a tough guy.

But there’s one kind of toughness that beats all others—having the cohones to do the right thing when you don’t feel like it.

I’ve made this same comment in personal conversations, when speaking to gang members with murder records. They always have no reply.

Perry was certainly a CONTENDER until his legion of
PerryBOTs have shown he is a RINO, by Gore.

You might need to look into some of Palin’s appointments and see that she’s guilty of cronyism big time. Look up her BFF and beauty pageant cohort Kristan Cole.

Did that come out in any of the 23,000 Palin emails?

U are absolutely right.

When you compromise your beliefs just to support a candidate it’s no worse than that candidate compromising theirs.

Not sure....sorry if I jumped on ya...I am just a bit frazzled by the true Perry people on here....lol

As for the look..I guess you have a point, but I don’t think age will be an issue this cycle....experience will but the right experience.

Playing with pix is what Time and Newsweek do. Nothing new here. BUT, I will say that this pic makes Perry look like a real man, vs their favored metrosexual.

In 2000, I assumed GWB was underplaying his debate ablities so he could deliver a knock out to algore in the final debate. That never came to fruition. Any chance Perry, knowing he’s got a good shot, is playing this game?

Obama isn’t a good debater IMO. He’s all “uh uh uh uh.” I do believe his intense arrogance will be his undoing. If he doesn’t think he needs to prepare for a debate with Perry (if he’s the nominee), he could end up looking mighty stupid.

Having said that, I thought Perry did awful in the first debate and better in the 2nd one. He was hot in the first hour. Is this guy a quick learner? I think he might be.

I’ll tell you why I believe Rick Perry will be the nominee in spite of all the other garbage. People are excited about him. That’s it. Plain & simple.

1. No, in all honesty, I don’t think he will improve in the Primary debates. He can’t truly debate when all 7 are out to drag him down and all he can do is defend himself. I think he will do slightly better when he has a his sights on a single opponent. Remember, he’s done this before but not in 5 years and not on this level. His people have already said, debates are not his strong point, so I expected this.

2. He will not lose the seniors over calling the SS a Ponzi scheme or over the Rats harping on it. Give the seniors of this country a little credit, they don’t scare easy. I have already been hearing this first hand from seniors.

3. I don’t like all of his views on immigration but I think this is one area that will attract the Independents. And exactly why the media doesn’t want to focus on it because they know it will attract the Independents. You can’t get any more extreme then Obama and when you contrast with him, Perry’s “extremism” is refreshing even to the most ardent Independent. I believe as well that as time goes on and the races tightens for him, Obama will be become even more extreme and all the Republican nominee will need to do is remain consistent.

That last point is why I believe Perry can beat him and Romney can’t. Like him or not, agree with him or not, Perry stands his ground and does not waiver or waffle under pressure and that is what it’s going to take to beat Obama. There are other candidates whose views I like better but none of them have the guts and staying power that Perry has.

As regards the admittedly superfluous “image” requirement for all candidates (look at bald Adlai Stevenson), Perry just looks more rugged and virile than Romney. Romney is not a bad looking guy, but he does look slick...just like his record. Perry just looks like one tough sob.

Yes, most women I know, even the libtarded ones, think Rick Perry is HAWT, in a manly sort of way, unlike:

...”experience will but the right experience.”

Agreed, but I don’t think an old, experienced, career politician is what the voters are looking for this cycle. And that includes nearly all nine that were participating in the televised debate night before last.

That’s a very good statement however there is not one candidate running today that I do not have to compromise on something with. Until the perfect candidate runs that I agree with 100% on every issue, every single time, I will vote for the one that I have to ‘compromise’ the least with.

The greatest President this country ever had was Reagan and he didn’t get it right 100% on every issue, 24/7. It’s not compromise to support a candidate of whom you do not agree with all the time.
