Pro-Bachmann PAC attacks Perry with South Carolina ad
LA Times ^ | 9/1/11 | staff

Reporting from Washington — A so-called Super PAC that supports Michele Bachmann is going after Rick Perry, suggesting that he doesn’t merit the support of the "tea party" movement.

It's the first real attack on Perry since polls have shown him to be the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.

It hammers Perry on the one area where he could be potentially vulnerable with the tea party movement: his 11-year track record as governor of Texas. The spot paints him as an executive who escalated state spending, citing a Wall Street Journal report last month that said the state offered nearly $10 billion in short-term bonds to prop up its general revenue fund.

The state Legislature this year had to work to close a $27-billion budget deficit.

Gov. Perry Announces TEF Investment in Solar Power Company

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced the state will invest $1 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) in HelioVolt Corp. of Austin for the construction of a 125,000 square foot manufacturing facility and development space to test and produce the company’s thin-film solar power cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. The deal will create nearly 160 jobs and $62 million in capital investment.

HelioVolt Corp. puts off growth. Plant is ready but demand not there yet

After months of stealthy operations, solar cell maker HelioVolt Corp. has delayed by two years its job creation projections.

Sounds like a fair ad.

I think it is laughable the LATimes views his spending as the one area in which he is vulnerable though.

Although some will jump on this, his spending has been downright frugal compared to most Governors. Rather, it is his stance with illegals that leaves him most vulnerable in the eyes of the Tea Party.

Will be interesting to see if anyone attacks him on that issue. My guess is no.

Let me clarify to say "attacks him through TV ads".

Obviously, several have already attacked him in the debate.

And Governor Palin should enter the race now why?

Just sit back and watch the candidates pummel er “vet” each other. Then, when they are exposed for what they really are, Palin enters.
Genius.

Any doubts that Bachmann is a stalking horse for Mitt Romney have been erased in my mind. I argued with those who insisted on this over the summer, but recent actions have led me to conclude that Bachmann’s job is to discredit Perry and take the focus off of Romney/RomneyCare.

“Perry’s already out in front of her in South Carolina.”

Irrelevant. The winners 4 years ago were polling single digits in September. And the frontrunners in September were the first to drop out. Remember Fred Thompson?

Bachmann will probably win the Iowa caucus and that will make her a front runner just like it happened with Huckabee.

Bachmann will never be the gop presidential nominee. Tired of her one issue shrill which the msm loves. Bachmann voted for ethanol subsidies and slammed the veterans. She apologized and the republicans forgave her...double standards? All Gung Ho when it comes time to send our military to fight, Michelle Bachman is much less supportive when they come home…

A proposal to cut $4.5 billion from Veterans Affairs Department health programs to reduce government spending has earned a quick, sharp rebuke from major veterans groups. Proposed by Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., the freeze in veterans health care funding — along with a cut in disability compensation for veterans also receiving Social Security disability benefits — are part of a $400 billion package of spending cuts that the tea party leader says could be enacted to avoid increasing the $14.3 trillion cap on government borrowing.
