A P-51 crashed into a vip area at the reno air races about 25. Initial reports indicate many deaths.

Late news conference...

CEO Houghton says race is canceled for this year. 56 injured, many critically. No death count from the scene to be released tonight. NTSB is taking over investigation and they will release fatality count and later names. Pilot was 74 not 80 years old; med records up to date. Refuses to speculate on future of the race.

Returned form the scene about 20 minutes ago. The death toll will rise but last I heard only three confirmed dead at the trauma center. 75 injured some transported by private vehicle.

This is going to get worse by the morning. The area hit was handicapped and VIP.

They were VERY lucky that the plane didn't end up literally in the main stand--it really came very close to doing so. If that had happened a tragedy at least on the scale of what happened at Ramstein AB back in 1985 could have been a real possibility.

Yes, just saw some video form the far angle. The pilot tried to pull it back in the last three or four seconds. Kept it out of the actual grandstand. The other thing is that area had been full of school kids earlier in the day.

It has been revised at many sites now that he was 74.

Rumor that famous politician was one of those killed. I cannot say any more due to relationships, if it is true tomorrow will be a sad day in our world.
