The man who would be veep (Rubio)
The Hill ^ | September 19, 2011 | Niall Stanage

The battle for the Republican presidential nomination is just heating up. But the choice of running mate is as good as settled, at least if the Beltway buzz is to be believed.

Many party insiders feel that the attractions of Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) for the second spot on the ticket are irresistible.

“Right now, he is head and shouders above everybody else,” Florida-based GOP strategist Rick Wilson told The Hill. (Wilson supported Rubio during his 2010 Senate bid, but did not work for the campaign.)

Garlands have been hurled Rubio’s way with conspicuous frequency in the past few weeks.

“Rubio has the most important ingredient of any leader: vision,” conservative columnist Cal Thomas wrote.

Former George W. Bush speechwriter Marc Thiessen last week contrasted the “depressing” performance of the Republican presidential candidates on foreign policy with that of Rubio. The Floridian recently “stepped forward to do what the other candidates should have: lay out a clear foreign policy vision,” Thiessen wrote on his Washington Post blog.

There was no third choice.

Read Ramsay and Jay and then you will understand the definition of ‘Natural Born’.

Bunk.
Either “born in the USA” or not.

I once supported him till his immigration views were pointed out to me by wiser freepers.

once again, hispanic first, American second

so I guess I can be “White” first, American second

let me tell folks something...I have a very strong pull to be Southern White first because I think my southern culture is preferable to me anyhow to what passes for Americana today...my southern flags ALWAYS fly below Old Glory and I raise my kids that way..American first, Southern second..warts and all...there is no other way ..yet

I do that on principle and respect for the founders, and Mr Fancy Pants Cuban descended and should know better Rubio can set his sangre latino aside as well..

and enforce the damned borders like a patriot ought to

I’m surprised there are so many illiterates on this board.

Look in the mirror.

On July 25, 1787, John Jay wrote to George Washington, presiding officer of the Convention:

Permit me to hint whether it would not be wise and seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of Foreigners into the administration of our national Government, and to declare expressly that the Command in chief of the American army shall not be given to, nor devolve on, any but a natural born Citizen.
There is no proof that deliberations took place at the convention on the subject of the letter. The Committee of Eleven, without explanation, changed the wording to "natural born citizen", and the Convention as a whole ultimately adopted the modified provision without further debate.

No offense, but you do not know what the hell you are talking about. You need to do more research, that is if you have ever done any at all. While it may take a supreme court decision or a constitutional amendment to convince people like you of the founders intent, a fair reading of the evidence AND COURT DECISIONS you can not conclude anything other than born in the U.S.A., to two citizen parents is the meaning of “NATURAL BORN CITIZEN”.

McCain was not born on U.S. soil, was he? No. That's it. Can't be “NATURAL BORN CITIZEN”. This is the argument between NATIVE born and naturalized NOT “NATURAL BORN”. HE WAS BORN IN PANAMA! A FOREIGN country. Being born in a U.S. Territory (which Panama was not, and Colon certainly was not, Doesn't even matter. Only one of the UNITED STATES constitutes “NATURAL BORN CITIZENSHIP”.

Having trouble finding the info on this right now, but if you want to learn something check this out

You don't see a whole lot of stuff you refuse to see.

You are what is called "willfully ignorant". Scott Peck defined that as "the essence of evil".

A Natural Born Citizen is one born in the country of parents who are citizens.

A letter to George Washington is the basis for this confused understanding and now; myth.

Pity you’ve bought in.

I think everything is overblown with Rubio. He’s just another lawyer who can give a good speech. Besides, he is a native born citizen not a natural born citizen. Both parents were legal Cuban immigrants but not US Citizens at his birth. The Founders intent on a President or VP is NBC...you can’t get around that issue. Anyone, who’d pick Rubio for VP...will have a mess during the general. So let’s keep with the original intent of our Founders picking a man/woman whose parents were US Citizens at the time of their birth.

This is just amazing.

Our nation is currently experiencing deliberate systematic destruction under the control of a half-alien spawn of the Devil, and his minions, ...

... while you and some ignorant others still question the wisdom of our Founding Fathers when they determined that the Presidency (and by extension, the vice-Presidency) should never, ever be held by anyone with divided or questionable allegiances.

The ignorance of those who believe this myth is presently unmatched by this writer.
A footnote of American history is not part of the founder’s wisdom.

We can discuss both sides of NBC all we want and call each other names till the cows come home but it is pointless until or when the SCOTUS makes a ruling - if they ever do. They don’t seem to want to decide either way.

I’d like to make one other point. Maybe we should pick the president out of one of the ORIGINAL 13 colonies. Our founding fathers couldn’t possibly have even considered Hawaii becoming a state!
