A Sun man is in the St. Tammany Parish Jail after deputies say he kidnapped his estranged wife in an attempt at rekindling their relationship.

Eric Quave, 34, 84266 Terrell Road, Sun, was taken into custody shortly before 8 p.m. Friday after authorities say a warning shot from a neighbor thwarted his efforts.

Capt. George Bonnett, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said the wife went to the Sun home the couple had previously shared and the two spoke civilly for a time but things got heated when the wife told Quave she did not want to reunite.

Bonnett said Quave allegedly became agitated and allegedly pistol-whipped his estranged wife, dragging her into a bedroom and taking her cellphone.

Fearing for her life, the woman agreed to reunite with Quave.

Bonnett said she told him she would stay the night but first needed to go to the mobile home in the Hillcrest area of Abita Springs to retrieve some clothes.

While driving to Abita Springs, Quave gave the woman back her cellphone and she was able to call 911.

Instead of talking to the operator, Bonnett said, the woman stashed the phone between the cushions of the vehicle’s seat.

The operator was unable to make out what the individuals were saying but authorities were able to narrow down an area of where the call was coming from and deputies were dispatched to the area of Louisiana Highway 435 and Trap Street.

At the same time, Quave and his estranged wife arrived at the mobile home on nearby Putt Street.

Armed with a pistol, Bonnett said, Quave remained in the vehicle while the woman headed toward her trailer under the guise of retrieving some clothes.

When she got out of Quave’s sight, she ran to a nearby trailer and alerted her neighbor, who came out with his own gun tucked in the back of his waistband.

The woman made her second 911 call from the neighbor’s residence and deputies were dispatched to the trailer.

However, before deputies arrived, the neighbor noticed

Quave’s gun on the dashboard of his vehicle and drew his own weapon.

When Quave reached for his gun, the neighbor told police, he shot a warning shot into the ground.

Quave drove away.

Deputies contacted via cellphone and he agreed to surrender at a neutral location; however, Bonnett said he denied his estranged wife’s claims.

He was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, second degree kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorizing and obstruction of justice.

He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where he was being held on a $150,000 bond.

And, I meant to add, the pistol whipping was a tender touch, too. Guaranteed to persuade and endear.

Abita Sprangs is pretty redneck Louisiana. It’s just up the road from Kentwood, home of Brittney Spears.

As a general rule, it’s best not to get involved in domestic disputes, but it sounds like everything turned out okay in this instance. In some cases, if you were to shoot and kill the EX while he was pistol whipping her, she’d probably sue you for wrongful death.

Why was she at his house in the first place? Am I reading that right? She went to his place then needed to go to her place for clothes?

She shouldn’t have went to his place.

Doesn’t make what he did right but what she did doesn’t seem to smart.

Most likely, she mistakenly thought that the two of them could have a talk about their relationship.

I agree it should have been on neutral ground and not at the home they once shared and he still lived in. But people always think that civilized behavior is the norm, until it’s proven otherwise.

The story says they did talk at first, but things took a bad turn when she told him she did not want to reconcile with him. He tried to force her to do so.

Sheesh. When you have to hold someone against their will in order to have a “relationship” with them, it’s over.
