Video: Perry’s cringe-worthiest debate moment
Michelle Malkin ^ | 9/23/2011 | Michelle Malkin

I mentioned Rick Perry’s DREAM Act debate blunder in my round-up post.

It gets second place.

The cringe-worthiest moment, by a hair, was when Perry botched what should have been his most potent attack on Mitt Romney’s chronic flip-flopping. As I noted on Twitter when it happened, any random high schooler at the CPAC conference in Washington could have done better than this.

If this is how Perry’s going to take Obama on in debates, we’re in trouble. Someone inject him with some Red Bull and a dash of Herman Cain’s personality.
**snip**

Perry said he’s in favor of making English the official language of the U.S. Perhaps he should concentrate on mastering it before the next debate

But his medical problems would not explain his outrageous “heartless” comment.

Nope....I was just commenting on his odd posture. It has stuck out at me whenever I see him.

I wasn't commenting on his horrible showing last night.

It is a shame Perry is not as articulate as you.
That said, I think he may be luring these other candidates into a false sense of invulnerability.
Time will tell.

99% of the population doesn’t watch or care about the debates.

Lol, the debates are discussed on all conservative talk shows and in all news media. Most Americans who pay any attention at all to politics will have heard the summaries of the debates after a day or two.

Debates matter, and several past candidates have crashed and burned, or soared to new levels of support based on debate performances.

But everyone is entitled to their own brand of self-delusion.

you have no business being on a conservative website.

I am SOOOOO glad you said just what you did!

And I hope other conservatives on here that support Rick Perry see my response, for this next thing I am going to say needs to be pointed out to those Perry supporters who get bashed in the way you just tried to do to me here.

OK Perry supporters, think about last night's debate.

Oh... OK... that was depressing! LOL

Let's do THIS. Think about the AUDIENCE at last night's debate.

A CONSERVATIVE audience, right? At least for the most part. (Some silly billys may have discovered how to get in too, but we'll say for the most part that debate audience last night was conservative.)

Hey, in fact, start thinking about ALL the debates Rick Perry has done so far in this presidential debate... three, correct? OK, think about those three audiences.

Three conservative audiences.

Well, what has happened in those debates, full of conservative individuals mind you, when Perry, or any of the others for that matter, said something they did not fully agree with?

You heard a negative response to a remark made on that issue.

What happened in those debates, full of conservative individuals mind you, when Perry, or any of the others for that matter, said something the audience approved of or appreciated?

You heard a positive response!

Those conservative individuals in those debate audiences did not throw a candidate off the stage when there was a sore issue between them.

Those conservative individuals in those debate audiences showed their DISAPPROVAL of the political stands coming out on stage... and those conservative individuals showed their APPROVAL of other stands coming out on stage.

Yet no audience to date in this campaign tossed any candidate off the stage and out of the party, and every audience came back with cheers for candidates even after they may have boo-ed that same candidate a little earlier in the debate.

So.....

We all can SEE how REAL conservatives treat their candidates by watching those REAL conservatives in REAL-LIFE situations. They have boo-ed stands, but their actions are not one of tossing a candidate out because of their "boos" on any specific issue.

To the poster here:

I am laughing at you because... "my LOGIC"???? Ah, come on.... I wasn't even talking about any "logic" of immigration at all. I gave Rush Limbaugh's logic, and if you think HE shouldn't be on FR, then go tell HIM! And I gave you points that are fact but that Rick Perry never even deemed to mention last night, points that would not have made the Texas DREAM Act more appealing for many who abhor it anyway, but points that would have cleared up confusion and misinformation. Unless you LIKE confusion and misinformation, then those points should be made known.

So poster, I'm laughing at your suggestion, and I'm laughing at your result.

And to Rick Perry supporters:

Don't let ANY bozo tell you that you are not conservative or that you should not be on a conservative message board like Free Republic just because you are a Rick Perry supporter, backing a candidate that has mostly 100% conservative values but a few that are not quite 100%.

And DON'T let people trick you into thinking we can not talk about the issues of our candidate -- good OR bad. Both kinds come with EVERY candidate!

Don't hide, and don't hang your head low.

We know when to clap, and we know when to boo, but we will not make OUR candidate, nor his supporters, leave the debate when there is one boo. We'll wait for all the other "clapping moments", and we'll go on to winning an election...

(...and we may need to talk to Rick Perry about taking some debate classes before October 1 too, LOL)

So hey..... THANKS steel-resolve. You just gave ME some of that name of yours, and by God's grace, I just gave some of that steel resolve to those Perry supporters out there on Free Republic too!

Obviously you are entitled to your silly opinion as to who’s conservative.
Conservatives by MY definition don’t compromise to the extent of enabling lying hypocritical con artists like Romney.
Sanction of the victim is not for me.
I will not unite for Obama Lite.

She’s had no credibility with me since the Saturday morning I got up with my coffee and went to read her site, to glean any facts, and got this grand rant lecture TELLING ME that I can’t mention the birth certificate because it makes me ‘look’ like fringe. Her arrogance in doing so put her in the same class as the commie MSM. It doesn’t matter to me if I look like fringe to the democrats, we deserve answers to the many questions.

He's FAR more articulate than I. His speeches.... WOW. He just hasn't done well in the debates yet.

Thanks for the kind words though.

I just hope Perry is able to show himself better as time goes on. He has a real passion for the vision of our founding fathers, and he's a smart leader. I think he'll do well for our country. He just needs to somehow get that part of "him" out.

And as far as luring, I sure hope he lures Mitt Romney right back to Massachusetts where Mitt can peacefully spend the second half of his life being taken care of by his Romneycare.

After last evening’s performance, I doubt Perry has much of a chance. Of course, I never imagined McCain would become the candidate in ‘08 after his poor debates that included speaking to himself and getting Lieberman to provide answers for him in interviews with MSM.

Man, there are a bunch of farmers in the valley who would take you to task on that.

Like I said, it is not a reliable water source. One can’t just place a stationary waterpump next to their plantation.
Mobilized pumps are key.

I am for a fence, btw.

OK, but what if one or both of them are on the ticket? Are you one of 5those folks who would stand on what you would call principle and stay home thereby throwing the election and subjecting us all to another 4 years of the disaster we have in the WH?

You surely cannot believe either one of these 2 are even 1/50th as bad as Ozero, can you

Some of us Texans have been trying to tell the rest of you, that Perry is where he is, because he's never had to face a worthy challenger. Now that he's on deck in the big leagues, you can see this clearly.

Perry has high negatives in Texas. Watching him in action, I get the feeling Texans do not have much say in his unbroken string of elections.

Sure he won elections......but HOW he did it is the question. Some Texans describe Gov Perry as a kind of a "Punxsutawney Phil." When it's time for election he's out there, saying and doing all the right things. After he's elected, he kind of disappears until it's time to run again.

And when Rick does that disappearing act, big-hearted Perry gets down to the real business of governance----enriching himself.

<><> In 2004 campaign commercials-----packing and wearing a cowboy hat-----Senor Perrynista was on all fours, all puckered up, saying how he would "protect" Texas by putting Texas Ntl Guard on the river. Despite Perry's sucking up for votes, the border is a savage war zone.

<><> The Trans Texas Corrdior was just one of Perry's insider deals----he used eminent domain for a superhighway thru Texas in which he partnered with then-candidate Rooty Giuliani (Perry endorsed Giuli for 2008 president).

<><> Perry took land from Texans to give to a Spanish company. Perry vetoed bills that would have blocked construction of the controversial Trans-Texas Corridor--- part of the NAFTA superhighway -- purported to be four football fields wide -- that will allow Mexican trucks to enter the US and traverse the core of our country all the way to Canada. Perry cleared the way for construction to begin in Texas when he vetoed several bills passed by the Legislature that would have stalled the project.

<><> 2012 VOTERS SHOULD KNOW: PERRY looked away as savage Mexican Zeta gangs expand their growing drug empire inside the US.....from Big D--Dallas.

That was the first debate I watched

You've been sliming Perry for weeks, yet last night was the first time you could trouble yourself to watch a debate? Says quite a bit out you, IMO.

With that “you have no heart” about using our taxes for illegals, he sounds like another typical Democratic candidate for Presi...What? What’s that, you say? He’s running as a Republican?! Well, maybe someone ought to tell him...

Look up Obama’s record - look at his appointments to the Supreme Court and the Treasury Dept, etc. I agree we might have different definitions of conservatives. Somebody being a hypocrite is the least of my concerns is the 2012 election. It is what they actually do to this country that worries me.

Wow, I almost forgot about that TTC thing. Isn’t that dead now? That oughtta be a real deal killer for anybody, regardless of the rest of the issues. I’m turning, turning turning, but to who? There are 2.

C’MON SARAH, PLEASE DON’T LET US DOWN. If she doesn’t run, I just don’t know what to do. It’s all the same ol same ol all over again, we sink, maybe just a little slower.

I agree with Rick Perry on one thing though and he should just run for President of Texas. I’d move back home in a NY minute.

If it is Obama, the Democrats will get the blame and open the door for real Conservatives to take over in 2016.

If it is Obama, there will be no repeal of ObamaCare, as he will simply veto the bill. I'm not even certain there will be a USA in 2016 if Obama is re-elected. You hold fast to your selfish personal views, though. I'm willing to compromise on a candidate for the better of the country, and at this point, I'll take Perry over Romney. If Romney wins the primaries, I'll have to convince myself to support him, but as a patriot, I will pull the lever for him.
